I just finished two books on this period and I might want to game it in 28mm. Who makes good figures for this era and what rules are out there to support it.

I,m doing it in 15mm, try the league of Ausburg website link on that site you should find all the suggestions for 28mm figures and the rules are suitable for this period, also for 15mm pics have a peep at my blog 1699wellish.blogspot.com
good luck with your project

I like 6mm and 15mm for this as well. Foundry had a range, Dixon does. Reiver does as well, all though I have heard mixed opinions on them. There are some new companies out there with ranges. Rules, you have Under the Lilly Banners, Captain General, Twilight of the Sun King, and there's a 9 Years War variant for Volley and Bayonet. Awesome period.

Copplestone as some new figures too, Irregular do a rather elegant range in 20mm as well as in 15mm.

If you can get hold of them Editions Brokaw has a pretty fair range of 9 yrs war figs in 15mm. Not awesome detail but real easy to paint. For rules Might and Reason has a module covering the Sunking's wars.

I'd very much like to game this conflict, also. I've got the 28mm figures for this era from Vendel, who have a large range of Elizabethan Horse & Foot + a smaller range of Irish, & the Graven Image Border Reivers & Irish. The extremely frustrating experience that I had with Monolith, the vendor for Graven Image, cooled my ardor for the period, however. There are some Old Glory figs that could be used from their Wars of Religion range & Irish from their Dark Age/Midieval range. Foundry has a few Eliz. era minis in their Pirate/Sea Dogs range.
If I do get around to playing Eliz. Irish battles, I'd do it at the skirmish level & use the old WHFB(-Fantasy) rules, Mordheim, or THW Chain Reaction 3: Swordplay (I've used the last 2 rulesets for Border Reiver games).

I have done most of the battles in this war with 15mm Elizabethians from Essex, Irish from Irregular and others. Used DBR for rules. We wanted mass battles so the smaller scale. I get the nagging feeling that a lot of the earlier responses here are refering to the Williamite War rather than the Nine Years War… Both are facinating.

I play the Nine Years war in 15mm (Irregular Wars link ) using a mix of Grumpy and Essex mins.

I'd love the play the Williamite period in 28mm at a skirmish level but don't know of any good ranges to cover the Irish of this period (or any good dragoons for that matter…).
