Hi all

Im keen to try this period. Anyone got any clues on uniforms. I understand Pendraken and Outpost are doing figures in 10 and 15mm respectively.

Regards

Chris

One place to start is the Junior General's website, which has paper soldiers (in colour) for this war (see link ).

A much better source – but expensive – is UNIFORMES DE LA GUERRA DEL PACIFICO 1879 – 1884, which available from Claiver Books (see link for a picture of the cover art).

Good luck with your project,

Bob Cordery

Hi Chris,

We are indeed doing the War and expect to have all of the figures out by the end of January 2010. However, as you are not the only person who has found it difficult to get uniform info – I'm hoping to release a downloadable simple painting guide along with the range release

If you (or anyone else for that matter) are a half decent (and reasonably quick) painter and are willing to supply photographs of the end results ….. there's a set of starter armies in it for you :-)

I can be contacted via

jeff@outpostwargameservices.co.uk if interested

Best Regards,
Jeff

Hi there,

I'm the guy who did a lot of the JG soldiers (J. Sommer) that were mentioned, so don't quote me 100% on the uniforms. If I can get my old laptop running, I can post all of the various links I found online, as well as a few word documents I compiled.

Good luck!

Here's a few, though all in Spanish, I'm afraid;

I'll see if I can find more!

I wish Outpost and Pendraken good luck on their respective ranges. Having said that, I find it interesting that after all this time Pendraken has yet to correct the typos on their web page.

They have yet to post any pictures on the page as well. I would think they would be motivated to do so and I can't help but wonder if the perception of a lack of interest by the buying public is behind this.

Unless I'm being blind, I can't see any blatant typo's on the SAP page? Although I did notice there are some AWI "Continentals in Wasitcoats" available on the homepage!

The SAP range was created after a customer request and has generated a lot of interest, especially at shows. It was also nice for us to do something slightly off the beaten track.

The pictures for all the ranges are getting done, and will slowly be added to a new website we'll be launching in the new year. If anyone would like pictures of any of our figures, just drop us an email and we'll send you some.

From your site:

19th Century | South America Pacific War 1879-1844
Each pack contains: 30 Foot or 15 Cavalry or 3 Guns & Crew
(unless otherwise shown)

The South America Pacific War 1879-1844 took place between Bolivia, Chile and Peru. Codes cover all nations, except for those marked with [B],[C] and [P]. Codes marked [B] cover Bolivia only, [C] Chile only and [P] Peru only.

I'm pretty sure that that the South American Pacific War did not go from 1879 to 1844. I'm glad to read the range is doing well, but a lot of times perception can trump the actual situation.

Oh well, you can't win them all…! I'll get the date changed on that.

Maybe when we hit the year X and start going back in time, someone can arrange another war, roughly coinciding with those dates? No? Dammit.

Any pictures forthcoming? It has been a few years and I was hoping to see what the figures looked like. It would help me decide on buying some, although I know your (Pendraken) other ranges are pretty nice.

I have a load of the OWS figures, love 'em.

I also got Stuart from Maverick to do a load of flags for the Chileans (must get around to sorting out the flags for the Peruvians and Bolivians too)

OWS also do a painting guide, very useful. What with that and the Caliver book, I managed to work out a load of uniforms for my Tacna project,

Also, don't be afraid of searching via Spanish Google, there is a lot of useful images and information out there.

Let me strongly recommend the Caliver Books "Uniforms of the Pacific War 1879-1884: the Land Campaigns". It is the english version of the Spanish language book recommended above. It is a work of beaut and no uniforms aficionado should lack it.
