According to Frank Preziosa, Current President HMGS, Historicon 2010 is not and will not be canceled. They are working on getting info together and members have been told to look for some sort of announcement on Monday. VR James Mattes |

Nope, it will be a 'green' WebCon. No need to bitch about where to host it – and if there's any mold involved it will be your own. |

No, Chicago is right out
.. It will be in Antarctica in 2013, to commemorate "A New Beginning", for those that survive the end of the world cataclysm in 2012. No worries, given the current rate of polar ice melt, it will be warm and sunny there for the convention. |

"
some sort of announcement" sounds pretty vague, but then again if you strip out all the stuff the lawyers won't let you say, "
some sort of" is about all that might be left. |

Has anyone at HMGS ever considered the Hunt Valley Marriott in Cockeysville, MD? link Several conventions a year have successfully hosted their events for any decades at this location. With several giant ballrooms that can be subdivided if need be, more than a dozen meeting rooms, a nice bar and restaurant in-house, spacious rooms, free parking, and lots of decent restaurants within walking distance this has always been a great venue. It is north of Baltimore, sits right on Interstate 83 for easy access from PA or Baltimore and other points, so it isn't a real traffic hole. There are multiple loading areas and docks, and the friendly staff is already used to convention goers from all walks of life. Usually all of the meeting and ballroom space is free if the hotel room blocks are booked (usually 80-90% of their capacity.) There are only 3 stories of rooms spread out around the grounds, versus the usual giant tower with only 1-2 out of 4 elevators working, so there's very little time wasted trying to get to your room if you can't do the stairs. There are also a few overflow hotels close by if the hotel gets completely booked, or someone prefers another chain to sleep in. Well? I haven't seen anyone else suggest this venue, so I'm curious to find out if it was ever even considered

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH! This just in from an undercover BNN reporter
. "
.yes, it was a surprise to me too that GW has trademarked and copyrighted the words 'HMGS', and 'HMGS-East', and have bought the rights to the convention, in a secret, backroom deal
. Hence, all of the need for lawyers, and top secret meetings behind the scene. Apparently, it will be moved a bit further East, to the UK, and will be a Warhammer 40K, and Warhammer Historicals only convention". The above reports have yet to be verified, but we are monitoring the BBC, CNN, and FOX News with great anticipation. We now return you to your regular programming

Stumer: Funny you should mention the Hunt Valley Marriott. We held a Cold Wars there many moons ago. It seemed to go well, and I remember having a great time, but the place scheduled several events on the same weekend. A happy couple made the unfortunate decision to schedule their wedding there on the same weekend as Cold Wars. I know because I walked into the lobby with the bride while their photographer clicked away! That poor woman
years from now she will look at her wedding pictures and wonder who in the heck that guy with the box of toy soldiers was! |

i suspect the reason it wasn't posted here is because there was no actual news there.* to me it seemed more of a "shut up already about canceling the con" post. heather for one has posted saying that the dates were firm. if the dates were firm, the con wasn't getting cancelled. larry i guess you can say that "look for an announcement monday is news" i don't, but i can see your point |

did they specify WHICH Monday they would make the announcement? |
Captain Apathy | 20 Dec 2009 11:22 a.m. PST |

John the OFM | 20 Dec 2009 11:44 a.m. PST |
The main criterion is that the BOD should be able to drive there from home in a reasonable amount of time. That is MY main criterion too. That rules out Lake Geneva, Chicago, Rome, Antarctica, the Moon, (What part of EAST do you not understand?) |

Urgent Newsflash from BNN!!!!! Due to an overwhelming number of complaints by stunned American gamers, about the purchase of the convention by GW, in a secret back-room deal, and the move significantly further East, to the UK, Timothy Geithner has been called into action on the issue. His press secretary informed us that he worked long into the wee hours last night, and has committed not to rest until this issue has been thoroughly investigated, and resolved to the satisfaction of American historical wargamers. Apparently, he is rather fond of Napoleonics wargaming with 3.7mm scale figs, and home brew rules. More news, as it becomes available. This is Juan Hernandez Carlos Rivera, signing off, for BNN

"Hunt Valley Marriott

" Probably because it only has 30K sq ft of meeting space, which is about 50K less than the Host. That'd make for a very tight Hcon

the big news is that James Mattes left the BoD and HMGS-East cons to take a new position as their un-official publicist and image consultant. Anything he picks up on the official Yahoo group, even communications that are not directly to him, he quickly runs with and posts here and..perhaps elsewhere. we are indebted to him. Without his tireless efforts to broadcast any and all communications about, between, from, to etc HMGS and its members, we the unwashed at TMP would be bereft and in the dark about the continuing saga/soap opera that is

This is an Urgent BNN News Update!!!! "We are pleased to announce that overnight, Tim Geithner and his pals have been successful in rending the HMGS-East convention from the icy grips of GW, in the UK, bringing it back to the shores of America once again. It was not done easily, or without considerable drama though, since the DefCon level was raised several times, there are rumors of a threatened naval blockade during this busy, holiday season, and even Santa Claus was heavily lobbied by Geithner, and the Fed (they were going to cut off Santa's low interest loans for toy manufacturing). Of course, no one pointed out to the negotiators that a naval blockade of the UK would have been rather ineffective, due to the heavy reliance on air transport during this modern age, and the existence of the Chunnel. Still, never one to be bothered with details, or historical facts, the US negotiating team pressed ahead valiantly. All parties have agreed to keep the entire incident a secret, so of course no mention of it will be made during the forthcoming announcement, and all official inquiries into "Operation Snowball" will be denied, or provided with misinformation. This is Juan Hernandez Carlos Rivera, signing off, for BNN". We now return you to your regular programming. Cue the "White Christmas" song

Hunt Valley totally sucked. I don't know if it was the Marriott or another hotel that treated us horribly. |

Speaking of hotels, I saw several reviews of the two hotels attached or next door to the convention center at VF, and see that they will probably live down to the Host's low standards. We'll all feel at home. |
