Hey all, looking for a solid line of 15mm dwarves. I have some really nice 15mm orcs from a line now out of production so I'm hoping to find dwarves that match them in quality. An expansive range would help too something with plenty of interesting options. |

Check out Splintered Light's dwarves, best I've seen yet. |

Dwarves are a bit sticky when it comes to 15mm. It really depends on what size dwarves you are looking for. Splintered Light Miniatures. Splintered Lands Dwarves are big. They are beautiful but likely will not mix with too many other ranges out there. Perfect for 1/72 scale figures BTW. Blood Dawn were the first of the breed of big dwarves and you guessed it! They will mix with SLM dwarves just fine. Essex, Ral Partha Battle System, Grenadier/Mirliton, chariot all mix together fine and scale up with other 15mm figures well. They are all very nice miniatures and have their own style. Splintered Light has another range of Dwarves-The Dark Dwarves. They have a bit of an eastern look and are more in line with a true 15mm dwarf. I think they will mix with Essex etc but I am not 100% about this. Another defunct range is Hobby Products with there excellent line of dwarves. Not too big again. Can be pretty hard to find and it might cost you. 15mm.uk has a line of Dwarves. I am not sure how big they are compared to other lines but they also look quite good. I get the feeling that they are of an intermediate size similar to Black Raven (next item). Black Raven have larger dwarves, though not as big as SLM/Blood dawn. Caught between Essex and SLM I suppose. Still some nice looking figures. Here is a comparison of some of the figures I've talked about. link John |

15mm.com do a nice and very broad range. Mirlton do the grenadier ones which are very nice. Magister Milliatum do the old chariot range, again very nice. Irregular miniatures also do a surprisingly nice range of dwarves. These are the more slender style of dwarves and should work well together. Magister also do Blood Dawn which are very nice, but taller and more games workshop portly build. Old Glory do the Black Raven Foundry which are again taller but not so bulky. The latter 2 are prob the best quality minis, i am guessing that you have Demonworld minis atm. They are as good quality minis as Demonworld imho. If you speak to the chap who runs fox minis then he has a stock of ral partha 15mm's which are, by all accounts, stunning. EDIT > looks like i was not the only one typing, the splintered light ones are indeed also lovely, i forgot them. Also dont forget that Rebel Minis have some nice ones as well. |

My orcs are Black Raven Foundry, I'd forgot OG still does that range! Their dwarves are alright but the line isn't as expansive. any idea what manufacturers are the same size as the BRF dwarves? |

The Alternative Armies dwarves from their HOTT line (as opposed to their TTF line) from 15mm.co.uk are pretty close to BRF (as acarhj suggested). I haven't loaded pictures of them, but I do have some listed for trade or sale on my blog (as AA Dwarves): link |

Splintered light has TWO ranges of dwarves. The dark dwarves are by Sandy Garrity and about 12mm, and slight in build. Very nice range, with cavalry and lots of characters. The Bob Olley dwarves stand 15mm high and are really "dwarves" in 20mm scale or thereabouts. |

I'm not a huge fan of the Partha Dwarves. They are more like Leonardo Dwarves. I do like the Black Raven and Alternative Armies ones. They are quite nice. Thanks, John |

The BR dwarves look too "thin" or should I say shallow for me, as if the molds are thin. Everything is on the same plane. Not sure if I am expressing myself the way I would like. |

The Dark Dwarves from Splintered Light are nice. |

I'm not a huge fan of the Partha Dwarves. They are more like Leonardo Dwarves. I do like the Black Raven and Alternative Armies ones. They are quite nice. Actually there are quite a mix. Some dwarves from RP have lots of armor but look quite "dwarfy" while others have the floppy hat and look more like, as you say, leonardo dwarves. You do get mainly the nicely armored guys with round shields though. |

My Grenadier dwarves were nice. But the Partha dwarves while very nicely detailed weren't what I would call traditional. I actually went to Partha here in Cincy to buy mine (along with a load of Elves and Undead). They are in a box. maybe I need to take another look. Thanks, John |

Grabula, Lots of good thoughts and advice here. First, I would be happy to send a couple of samples your way of the two Splintered Light ranges (dark dwarves and regular dwarves). What is interesting to note is that bulk is as important to look at as height when considering a line. The SLM dwarves are actually shorter than the Alternative Armies dwarves and pretty close in height to the BRF dwarves but seem much bigger than both due to bulk. I can also send some comparison pictures I took to anyone interested. David splinteredlightminis[at]earthlink[dot]net |

My favorite is the grenadier/mirlton ones. Got the old 120 figure boxed set many years ago. Still painting up a HOTT army from it for my son. Phil |

I have the Peter Pig dwarves which are a pretty decent range. They have a fair amount of detail. I also have the Tabletop dwarves (from 15mm.co.uk), and they match the PP dwarves almost perfectly. However, it seems like they may have had two different sculpters because a few of the dwarves are a little taller and broader and less detailed than the others. I have also bought some of the Mighty Armies dwarves. They are a little taller and broader than my other two, but they are so close that you can only tell it when you are holding them side by side. I have bought some of the SL Splintered Lands dwarves, which look great, but they were huge compared to my 15mm figs. I have also bought some Blood Dawn dwarves, which were also nice figs, but once again quite huge. I have also had some BRF dwarves which were also a bit on the big side, but a little smaller than the SL and BD dwarves. Still too big for my taste. I will try and take pics of all of these and get them posted somewhere. |

Hi, I my self am working on a Dwarf army, and have blogged about it. theorky15mm.blogspot.com I am using Dwarfs from Black Raven Foundry (Old Glory 15s), Mirliton (old Grenadier range), and have some SL dwarfs. I have photos on the blog of side by side from the 3 makers. I would not go with SL dwarfs as they are more 20mm than 15mm. I do love there Dark Dwarfs, and I think they are 15mm. Well any way Both BRF, and Mir work great together. Noel |

love the grenadier dwarves myself. link mounting them on bears was sort of dumb but the models themselves are gorgeous. |
Noelvh | 18 Dec 2009 3:26 a.m. PST |
I don't mind the mounting of Dwarfs on bears, I think it makes sense as they come across bears in there mines, and caves. I do like the BLF Dwarfs on sabre tooth tigers better. You can see them on my blog, and they look good. Noel |
