I was doing an entirely different search and found these, which might be of use to some of you guys: link link Hope this helps. Dan |

WARNING! The second batch are soft *rubber* toys, not plastic. The oversized pirated Silent Death minis are paintable after applying a spray primer coat.

And here I thought I was trying to help. Thanks. Good catch, Leland. Dan |

Cheaper: link Go down to the "cut out fleets". For the creative
buy some Sculpey, then make 'n bake your own; it's not like you have to worry about being historically accurate! |

Yeah, I own a load of the Silent death knock offs. They are decent. I have painted some of mine to be Jem H'dar ships for Trek. They go against my Furuta ones. Thanks, John |

Beware, I don't know if they reformulated the plastic the ships were made out of, but at one point, one of these 2 batch of ships couldn't be shipped to California due to the banning of some nasty chemical that was in them. Here's the thread where I originally posted about it: TMP link |

What do you guys think of these other ones? auction Dan |

The original SD ships are available pretty cheaply from EM4 Miniatures, too. |
Space Monkey | 06 Dec 2009 7:14 p.m. PST |
There's also these from the Buck Rogers board game
link 96 fighter planes for $1.00
the shuttles and war birds aren't quite as good a deal.. 24 or 36 for a buck on those. |

I actually just bought a pack of all three types (a buck a pack) and five ping-pong balls for a dollar at link with the intent to see how cheap a war game I could build from them. Started painting them after gluing them to stands and they look OK as small in-system craft/fighters. Building the ping-pong balls with glued on pieces to be some sort of small 'globe' cruiser. Figured for under $10 USD including stands, paints and glue, all I'll need is a table and rules. Dan |

"one of these 2 batch of ships couldn't be shipped to California due to the banning of some nasty chemical that was in them." Mmmm . . . always take that with a grain of salt. After all, the State of California *knows* that certain mouthwashes are carcinogenic, when nobody else does. Then there was the whole New York State lead thing. However, those soft plastics are a real pain in the rear to paint, so are not that much of a bargain anyway. |

I had the red one from the auction link as a kid, except that it was in a hard plastic with a metalic blue color. It was pretty cool, and would be good for gaming. I might even have it somewhere
I had a few of the buck rogers parts, and they were just ok. The gun emplacements are nice detail bits though. For those of you frustrated with soft plastic (the kind that army men are made of and others). Krylon "Fusion" spray paint is made to bond to plastic. I've had good use with it both as a basecoat, and as a primer for painting over with regular paint. |

CC, those last ships you link to are extremely useful IMHO. I have painted a number of them up for Silent Death (gunboat and shuttle proxies), Full Thrust (cruisers), and in the case of the saucers, for playtesting War Rockets (IIRC). All good that set. I have a whole kaboodle of both types of ships. Both types of them paint up just fine with acrylic paint, no primer required. |

Good finds. I'm looking for some air power for my Epic 40k forces and these may fit the bill. |

I bought some years ago, and US Toy Company has sent me like 6 emails a day ever since. (They are relentless in trying to get me back to order something else) :) |

Whoops! The same bags of 144 are for sale in the Wargame Miniatures- Other category on ebay for 11.95! (Anyone want to suggest better keywords or rules systems?) |

Hi Dan C., How big are these mini's you picked up from the surplus store. I'm interested in the Fighter Planes, Space Shuttles and the War Birds. Also if anyone else has bought the Gun Pods a size for these would be welcome also. I'm looking at using them for 6mm gaming as well as possibly for Silent Death. Regards, Ray |
