Just a random semi-thought for a poll: "what conflict (war if large enough) is your favorite that most people you have gamed with had/have never considered as a game?" Aerial, naval, land, skirmish, tactical, operational, strategic categories (and more) are possible sub-categories or separate polls. Gracias, Glenn |

I have often found that division/corps level trench assaults in WW1 are a difficult subject to make into an enjoyable game (although they are fairly easy to simulate). I can't actually think of anything my regular group would consider ungameable, although some of them might not be very good games. My attempts to write a decent eighteenth century logistics game have so far failed dismally. We've got a snappy title though. Submarine warfare is a tricky one to get right. So, there we go. i) WW1 operational trench warfare ii) Eightenth century logistics at Army level iii) submarines None of these are unthinkable, just hard to get right, which I guess doesn't really help with the poll. If we have a favourite period, then we'll have a go at gaming it. |

I've run 3 Border Reiver games at Millennium Con in Austin/Round Rock & most of the players & onlookers find this a novel gaming period, tho there are miniatures, rule sets, a Yahoo group & an Osprey book devoted to the era. Obscure battles that IMO would make good games are the 3 battles in 1813 between Spanish Royalists & Mexican Republican rebels near San Antonio. |

I thought we'd settled on the War of Jenkins Ear as the official TMP answer to all such questions? We of course cannot consider gaming the conflict due to the near criminal failure of the manufacturing community in failing to provide appropriate mounted kettle drummers. |

Not unknown, but hard to get others interested in playing: Maximilian's Mexican Adventure The Benelux campaign in '40; Luxembourg vs. Brandenburgers, anyone? The Spanish Civil War; yeah I know. |

In keeping with the season, King Philip's War of 1675-76. Pilgrims vs. Indians!!! The US-Dakota War of 1862, specifically the battles of Fort Ridgely and Wood Lake. That's a favorite subject of mine because it local to me here in Minnesota. Having grown up in Kansas, a game set in Bleeding Kansas, c. 1856-59 would be interesting. |
