Okay…this is for 15mm scale figs…
USMC Woodland MARPAT, (not the desert stuff);
What would the color of the LCE gear be?…still OD Green? Black? I need to kind of know this to figure out how it's going to be painted so I can get the uniforms down…

Thanks in advance…

Murph,

From pictures it looks like a mix between coyote tan, Marpat, and OD Greens.

Murph –

It's looking more and more that Coyote Brown is the color of the future for USMC LCE regardless of desert/woodland environs; but you would not be amiss to mix or maintain OD green cartridge belts, 1st aid kits & canteen pouches for some time.

The stuff they're wearing in the field nowadays is all supposed to be coyote brown/tan, regardless of the uniform color worn. One exception is that I've seen some Marines wearing green MARPAT 3-day/hydration packs in the field. I'm not sure if that's authorized for regular Marine infantry or not. To be safe, just paint the body armor, pouches, packs and boots coyote brown, while the uniforms, helmet covers and field caps (covers) are MARPAT. Same rules apply to both Woodland and Desert versions of the uniform.

Just out of curiosity, how the heck are you going to paint MARPAT ?

Mardaddy21 Nov 2009 9:53 p.m. PST

Not that hard at 15mm actually – Use your preferred distressed paint brush you would use for drybrushing and instead of strokes, you stipple the chosen colors with very light paint.

helmet 101…

It took me about four months to get the proper color and pattern down for ACUS, but I nailed it…
Here's my current experiments with MARPAT

More to come…I've just found out that one of my biggest issues is that US troops are covered in "Gear/Stuff", and thus I have to get the proper coyote brown color down so I then have the MARPAT areas blocked and ready…

Unfortunately Mardaddy for this one I have to disagree. With the Marine one, for some reason, it's more difficult getting the right "stipple"…too much green and they look "German"…too little and all you see is brown…

your comments on the blog are hilarious, Murphy.

I will avidly follow you ups and down :-)

I nailed Multi-cam which is some kind of variant of the ss pea pattern.

Okay…

Early issue MarPat uniforms could be seen with Woodland camo webbing, or plain olive drab webbing.

Coyote Brown became the official webbing colour for new issue LBE. If you see MarPat pouches, apart from some early experimental field trials, they are all after market private purchase items.

"it's more difficult getting the right "stipple"

I've got pics of a Rebel Mini's 15mm figure I did as US Army colors using the "stipple" method. I found it easy enough & the results were great, but it may be a color issue as the Army colors blend into one another so easily at distance. I have not even "washed" the figure yet.

PM me your email and I'll give you a look at how it worked for me. It was a bonus I got when I ordered a few packs of Rebel zombies, and I did it as a one-of test figure. The next time I snag some appropriate 15mm figures for USMC, I'll be trying it.
