Hi. I've recently bought this train and having got it out of the box I can't decide if it's a little too big. Not being a train enthusiast I don't really know how big it should actually be. The figures are about 28mm scale. I want to use it for a train heist in my Wild West game. What are your opinions? picture picture picture picture picture picture I can add more pics if it helps. |

Depends. The hands, the heads and the weapons of your minis would fit right in with the scale of the train, about 1:35-1:48 but their height not. picture |

Looks like the same train that I bought a while ago. Sadly, I think it is too big. Although in the shop it seemed about right
can't win 'em all I suppose. |

IMNSHO, way too big. On a scale of one to ten, about eleven. |

Thing to remember is that trains are huge, those driving wheels are about 6ft, so its maybe a little tall, but that is about all. |

link link link link These should take you to pictures of men standing beside a locomotive. Put your figures next to your train. What do you think? Because if you're happy with the general look what the rest of us think shouldn't matter a bit. |

Those Christmas trains are usually what they call G-gauge, which depending on manufacturer varies from 1/22.5 to around 1/32 scale, which makes them too big. Here is a picture of a similar, authentic locomotive with authentic people for scale

Your engine has a serious amount of vertical exaggeration above the driving wheels, BTW. |

Neotacha, you may have hit the nail on the head there. I think the reason I did the post was, that after staring at it for 15 mins I had decided that it was too big, but wanted someone to convince me otherwise before I binned it and started looking elsewhere. :-) |

Do you live in Canada or the US? Walmart (also at Canadian Tire in Canada) has a Christmas Express that is just perfect IMHO. Here are my photos for this train repainted on my website: link Hope they help

Sorry, but it's a bit big. |

I think Hitman's is a lot closer. Part of what might be making it look too big is the rails are unrealistically high off the ground and unrealistically high themselves – but the loco and the stock look a lot closer. |

Hitman, Unfortunately I'm in the UK. Trying to find a cheap suitable train is like trying to find a rocking horse poop. Lovely looking train btw. |

Fastlane makes inexpensive trains that look good with 28mm figures.Don't know if they are available in the UK. |

sorry, didn't know where you lived ,but thanks for the compliment. It sells for around $12–$15 Canadian. I got 2 of them just before Christmas at a pre-Boxing day sale 2 years ago for half price each. I wanted two passenger cars and extra straight pieces of track. I can see if Canadian Tire or Walmart still carries this train, but I don't know what shipping and handling costs would be like. Let me know

Personally, I'd paint it up and probably use it if they are hard to find. How many players will be looking at the train and thinking about scale? How many just saying ooh shiny! ;-D YMMV. John |

looking at he pic borrible cites as making you train too tall and your figures not tall enough,,,,, the black and white photo has the train set slightly below the platform that the men are standing on. soooo if you add the platform height to your figures it places their heads at the same level as on the black and white pic, no harm no foul, use it and smack the crap out of anyone who points out the scale discrepancy. |

I think the engine is too big also. I think it would look good with 40mm figures. By the way very nice paint job on the figures. |

Not only is the train too big, but parts of the train is not in scale with itself! The toy train was built for looks, not accuracy, so parts throw the whole thing off. |

Thanks for the offer Terrement :-) It probably won't get through customs though. What would you label it up as? a gift? Hitman, thanks for that, i'll try see if I can find some over here before I try and source them from your side of the water. But cheers for the offer. Also thanks for the comment about the figures WarWizard. |
