the 1st hanavarian Brigade at waterloo list a regiment by the name ,,,duke of yorks 1st field battalion. Is this a renamed battalion or one raised for the 1815 campaign?any idea what the faceing color for this unit might be ? I'm hopeing to raise this 1st Hanavarian brigade for use with the new foundry Napoleon rules.. and I know there is next to no information on standards,so I am going to have to make do with some luck amd any helpful ideas to make my own. See under "Light Field Battalion Osnabruck" here: link Hofschroer has no information on the uniform of that unit, but you may be able to adapt one of its fellows: link Allen |

Tim As Allen has noted there is little info available. But there are a few good sources: Siborne lists Duke Of York's Osnabruck as having red coats with blue facings, grey trousers, white belts and Belgic shako at Waterloo. Previously they had been a 'Light Bn.' and dressed in green, but had most likely been re-uniformed for the 1815 campaign. I believe the Mont Ste. Jean site plate is wrong for Duke of York's at Waterloo! Also see the W.J.Rawkins booklet for uniforms of the Hanoverians: PDF link As for colours, all units seem to have carried them. Some are noted in previous discussions on this board. And the Luneburg Light Bn. had one captured at Waterloo. As a guess, standards based on some variation on the City colours and coat of arms or the Hanoverian white horse could be carried. Cliff |

Thanks for the information gentlemen..your help is most welcome
.now just 2 more little questions. 1) am I correct in thinking the hanavarain light battalions were musket armed, and only the jager korps had rifles? 2) would I be wrong in useing the perry plastic 28mm british Belgic shakos in oil cloth covers ? I know the hanavarians were not fully equiped compared to some of the other armies, but I really hate to waste good minatures.I know some of the Hanavarian battalions had the stovepipe shako as well. That Allen must have had a good day; I was expecting some sort of sarcastic comment mocking "hanavarians". |

Nope. Once a month is enough. After that, the Hanoverians can come to their own defense. Allen |

Runicus Fasticus One source I have indicates that the Light Bns. were armed 2/3 with mukets and 1/3 with rifles. The Rawkins booklet says that the Light Bns. were officialy supposed to have rifles, but many carried muskets. Also some of each Bn's. light co. had rifles as well. The Field Bns. were 'supposed' to be in the Belgic shako, the Light bns. in conical shako and the Landwehr in conical shako. However some sources also show the extensive use of the cap in the field bns. and there are a few other anomalies. Rawkins says that shako covers WERE worn. Personaly I'm using the Victrix British in uncovered Belgic shako for my Bremen Bn. and the Perry British in Conical shako for my Luneburg Light Bn. Cliff |
