Let me see if I can offer some information for you. The rules are 1:1 You can play either by scenario or army list (4 temporary army lists come with the rules until the permanent ones are complete). Once you have established your force, each unit is assigned a card (from a deck of cards). Then the cards are placed together to form the game deck. As you flip the cards the units are activated. Each unit has 2 actions in their activation which they can advance, fire, throw grenade, run, and go prone and so on. Each unit also has special abilities or "unit traits" which adds further character to the unit such as firing better, moving better through rough terrain, tank killers and so on
(This element just makes each unit different from other units in the force and is nation-driven so the traits are specific to the nation you are playing.) Infantry weapons have rates of fire and a standard to hit factor which is modified by specific unit traits or standard modifiers. Higher rate of fire weapons put out a hail of lead, so if you get caught in the open by a MMG team (or a rifle squad for that matter) – you are in trouble! Armor has a specific data sheet (based on historical information) which is for that type of vehicle. The data sheet/chart has the vehicle's size, weapons, armor values per location, crew actions, special rules (Panther Ds are prone to breaking down), main gun penetration, and so on. So when you fire on a target vehicle you do a to hit roll (the penetration always varies as there is a die roll for +/- to penetration). You compare the penetration to the target vehicle's location (you roll vehicle location after you determined that you hit), and if it is equal to or greater, then it goes in. If you roll a natural D20, no matter what the gun size is, it penetrates (this happens rarely but when it does it is sweet!) Rules for Air support, Artillery (on and off board). I think that covers the basics. Warlord |

Thanks, Warlord. That's more what I was looking of. Is it U go I go? Are there reactions like oppertunity fire and such? |

vogless: Each unit is assigned a play card and when the associated card is flipped the unit assigned to that card is activated. There is Opportunity fire, if a unit is on over watch then that unit may interrupt an enemy unit (at any point in their activation) that moves with in their line of sight, however the over watching unit may only activate if is makes a successful morale check (if it fails it is assumed they were not paying attention, did not want to take the shot or what ever). |

Thanks again Warlord. I hear elements of a few games I'm familiar with there (Battleground WWII, Rules of Engagement, Disposable Heroes). I'll head over to the forum and check it out

They sound interesting, and they cover the "level" of play I am interested in. However, two strikes against them so far, one minor, the other major (for me). #1 – No idea how to order them (if they are even available yet) or how much they cost. #2 – Late War lists only. The first should be easy to clarify. But I don't buy rules that only have late war lists. I like early war, followed by mid-war. So unless these are so inexpensive that curiosity wins out, I will be holding off until lists for at least the early period are released. Does anyone know if those are currently even in the works? Or is this being bundled up as a late-war game, and depending on sales, etc., they will decide if they are even going to do early and/or mid-war? Steve |

Steve, here's where you get them: battlemart.com/store This is a PRE-RELEASE copy. No pics or fluff. The full version comes out around FEB(?). THere will be a discount on that version if you buy this one. Now, as far as the promised Army books and what's in them, I don't know. I just found out about this a few days ago. Warlord did say on his forums they hope the army books start to appear in Feb. HOPEFULLY they take a page from Iron Ivan and put all of each army's lists/armor/guns, etc into each book, just like Disposable Heroes. I ordered a copy and will probably give a first impression when I get them. Tough competion for me with this one. I really like Force on Force, and will be running my first game of Disposable Heroes in a week or so to give it a try. Still want to give Rules of Engagement and Nuts some play time as well

SeattleGamer: The rules have just been released with temporary army list until the lists are released in January/ February (which is in a couple of months). The list at this point will be will be date coded so the list will cover early/mid/late war. When you pick your army and say you are doing an engagement in 1940, when you pick your force the list will have dates by the units/ equipment that you are picking. Therefore you will only be able to pick units/ equipment that are availably to the time/ theater you are fighting in. There is a link to the place you can purchase them from on the site. Hope that helped. |

Can you give an example of how some basic rules work, say infantry attacking infantry or something? |

Might be helpful if the release was posted as a News item
