Austrians are out of my usual area of interest, but I need to build up a force in 6mm. I just want to check that I have the official organisation of the various artillery batteries correct.

I believe that they were:

Brigade Batteries: 8 x 6lb guns
Cavalry Batteries: 6 x 6lb guns
6lb Position Batteries: 4 x 6lb guns, 2 x howitzers
12lb Position Batteries: 4 x 12lb guns, 2 x howitzers

If I am incorrect, please let me know.

Colin,

According to a table in Bowden's and Tarbox's Armies on the Danube, 1809, page 15; the Cavalry Battery could have 4x3 pdr. or 4x6 pdr. and 2xHow.; additionally, it indicates that some Brigade Batterys could have 8x3 pdr.

Dear Colin
Alas Scott Bowden is mistaken as to the organisation of the Austrian Batteries. Cavalry Batteries did not have 3-pdrs. The establishment was 4x M1780 6-pdr wurst guns and 2x M1780 7-pdr Wurst Howitzers.

The M1753 3-pdrs were used as Brigade Batteries if there were not sufficient 6-pdrs.

Stephen, Mark and Saber6,

Many thanks; I have now amended my order:).
