I just visited flamesofwar.com, and saw that they are now offering miniatures for the Vietnam War. Am I the only one who hasn't heard a word of this until now? |

Pretty sure it's in the latest Wargames Illustrated. There was a news article here about a week or two ago. Ed G |

This has generated huge interest in my area. |
| nazrat | 20 Nov 2009 1:39 p.m. PST |
Yeah, it's been talked about on at least two threadshere, and most of the comments have been pretty positive. But hey, it doesn't matter when you come to the party, only that you're here now! 8)= |

Wow, and I thought I was more in touch than that! Mea Culpa. |

Can't wait to see the game
can just imagine it now. One guy sets up his table edge with wall to wall M-48's while the VC player fields a ten deep phalanx of guerillas led by a fearless warrior with fir support from a ten model base edge to base edge unit of recoiless rifles. Of course I might be wrong. The models should be nice anyway. |

that caused my coffee to come out my nose! |

I wonder how they will compare with Peter Pig minis. I was thinking of using them for Charlie Company and switching scales. But then I will have to sell all my 20mm stuff. |

is that a special VC coffee attack? |

"FOW is perfect for vietnam." Blink. Blink. Blink. Sorry, don't see it. Not even close. I dread the games that will look exactly as proposed above. Allen |
| Mithmee | 20 Nov 2009 9:25 p.m. PST |
Oh they will figure out some way to get tanks into it. Otherwise how will they get the power gamers to buy them. |
| GeoffQRF | 20 Nov 2009 11:33 p.m. PST |
Edge to edge M113s and T54s sounds fine to me :-) |
| Cincinnatus | 20 Nov 2009 11:37 p.m. PST |
Followed up by the mythical M60 monsters edition. |

Sorry, don't see it. Not even close. I dread the games that will look exactly as proposed above. I'd love to see one of these mythical "wall to wall tanks" games. Never seen one yet. I've seen it happen in another 20mm game someone ran, though. |
| McWong73 | 21 Nov 2009 5:03 a.m. PST |
I'm keeping an open mind as to whether it will work. Considering it's just the la Drang battle and doesn't have any armour etc the basic rules engine would work. From all BF accounts it's a one off for now, like Space Hulk is for 40k. |

Do you have to own FoW main rulebook AND the WI issue to play or can you play the game with just the magazine that contains the Vietnam rules? |

"I'd love to see one of these mythical "wall to wall tanks" games. Never seen one yet
" It ain't mythical. Our LGS routinely has 'parking lot' style set ups. Admittedly, the worst was when everybody went tank company in a large multi-player game but manuever room just weren't there that day. |
| GeoffQRF | 21 Nov 2009 11:26 a.m. PST |
I've witnessed it many times, both at clubs and at conventions. Admittedly it isn't restricted to FoW or 15mm. |
Monkey Hanger | 21 Nov 2009 11:56 a.m. PST |

. 3 x slicks + 10 wound markers – £35.00 GBP 1 x slick – £12.00 GBP 1 x Huey HOG – £12.00 GBP US Rifle platoon – £9.50 GBP US company HQ – £12.00 GBP PAVN BN HQ – £6.50 GBP PAVN inf Platoon – £9.50 GBP PAVN AA Platoon – £9.50 GBP PAVN Weapons company – £ 9.5 Have fun all MH :-) |

I have run Vietnam with the rules on the modern fow group's website. It went pretty well. We had an american platoon dug in with 3 acav M113s and 2 M48s dug in on a hill. They also had another platoon airmobile. The NVA had two full infantry companies, a mortar platoon, 3 PT76s and an AA platoon. We did add a few predator aliens to make hit and run attacks on both sides for a little more fun. I think FOW makes a great infantry game for those who can get their monds off of hordes of tanks. |
| GeoffQRF | 21 Nov 2009 11:59 p.m. PST |
Our Huey is still only £8.00 GBP MH, but no way we can match the price of a 6mm version :-) |
John Leahy | 22 Nov 2009 1:08 a.m. PST |
Hey Jimmy. How long did the game run? Two companies is a decent amount of troops. Thanks, John |
| nazrat | 22 Nov 2009 12:14 p.m. PST |
So the BF Hueys are pretty much the same price in US dollars as the QRF ones. Good to know! |
| Jimmy da Purple | 22 Nov 2009 12:15 p.m. PST |
It was about 3 hours at Cold wars. The Us was dug in. Two companies do not last as long assaulting dug in americans. The helocopter rules are a little fiddley, but the game ran nice. |
| GeoffQRF | 23 Nov 2009 2:42 a.m. PST |
So the BF Hueys are pretty much the same price in US dollars as the QRF ones. Ours our $12.71 USD plus shipping (total $16.50) from here, or $14 USD plus actual shipping from Mark at Scale Creep. £12.00 GBP = $19.94. Yep, identical pricing ;-) |

I'd love to see one of these mythical "wall to wall tanks" games. Never seen one yet. I've seen it happen in another 20mm game someone ran, though. I played in one this weekend. My opponent had four Stugs. Mind you, they weren't fender to fender, but too close to look "real." But then again, I had nearly wall to wall infantry with my British Rifle Platoon. However, I think the problem is the table size. People like to play large point battles on a 6x4 table. It just feels too cramped for me. I prefer battles of between 1000 and 1500 points, which lets you spread out a bit. |
| GeoffQRF | 23 Nov 2009 1:33 p.m. PST |
I played on a table that must have been 8ft wide by 12ft long. I only had a small company, played blind with 2 umpires. Best Game I think I ever played. Never did find out just exactly I was up against, but my 6 pounder had fun with an armoured car. |
| nazrat | 24 Nov 2009 10:01 p.m. PST |
Ours our $12.71 USD USD plus shipping (total $16.50) from here, or $14 USD USD plus actual shipping from Mark at Scale Creep." Fair enough-- so much for doing currency exchange in my pointy little head! 8)= The fact remains that their models comes with 10 Wound Markers, Decal Sheet, Flying Stand and optional clear plastic Rotors, so I will maintain that although the price is slightly more the value is the same (or better). |
| GeoffQRF | 24 Nov 2009 10:44 p.m. PST |
If you feel that's worth the extra £11.00 GBP then you go ahead ;-) |

The hub to hub appears in many rules. I got a BATTLEGROUND WW2 scenario for 28mm troops that has on the German side 4 half track 3 tanks and 60 figures and on the US side the same less the half tracks. The table is 8 by 4. 4 half tracks line up with terrain constrictions is almost the same as hub to hub! |
