Hello Everyone!

Ever since I looked over the gorgeous Khurasan 15mm Nikophorian Byzantine miniatures, I was struck at their cavalry shields. The are supplied with infantry type, almond shaped shields, yet every description indicate cavalry shields are round. Any indication as to which is more correct?

Going by my copy of Armies of the Dark Ages the 10th an 11th century types had almond shaped shields, though I suppose other types would still be in use.

All my Byzantine boys have the latest kit.

The "kite" shape was invented by the Byzzies apparently, and carried West by Frankish mercenaries, where it got longer. Round was always "in" and so both types should show up….

For what it's worth, my first thought upon reading the topic title was "kite shields."
