Thanks.

I beleive their are mods for Battleground Waterloo.
I have not tied them though.

Nope, but in the comming year, an patch/expantion will come out for histwar with the english and it's allies, both peninsula and waterloo allies

It will also come with sevral battles from the peninsula, and options to make your own.

The game it original game will be realised before x-mas

I checked "Battleground Waterloo", but found it was on an "archival" web-page and I've never seen it in any store (though admittedly, not having heard of it before, I haven't asked anyone specifically about it). Does anyone know is it still available? And, my Computer being a PC which has Windows 98 as its operating system, would this game, or indeed that mentioned by Gunfreak, run on it?

For a list of the available mods available :

All peninsular scenarii seem to be for Waterloo Battleground game…

All these old files were available here :

To get the old Battleground napoleonic games (Waterloo, Prelude to waterloo and Napoleon in Russia), I know that they were re-edited last year or two years ago…
Amazon.com propose them :

No problem to use them with windows 98 !!
Old but good system.
John Tiller, the conceptor, is now into HPS company.
hpssims.com
Available games are Austerlitz, Waterloo, Eckmuhl, Wagram, Iena, Borodino, etc… and perhaps a future game on peninsular campaigns very soon !!

Hope it will help you.

I think your pc can run histwar, it dosn't require much.

The demo comes out in about 10 days so you can try the demo then and see if it works

I have played both Napoleon in Russia and prelude to waterloo…and yes the windows 98 work great with them.

I now have windowsxp but have lost the instructions that came with the games and have not been able to even try to upload them. I do miss those games..great stress releavers

Gunfreak,,,would you please post a link for that demo game when it comes out?

Sure.

Gunfreak,

I share your interest in Histwar and will be interested in seeing the demo when they release it…I am troubled by the seemingly abrupt breakup with Battlefront Games, but I'm sure there is a story from both sides. I am cautiously optimistic but somehow apprehensive at the same time…

A french review gave the game 9/10 based on the last beta version

Wait until February when 'Napoleon, Total war' comes out.

Terry L,

We'll see…I bought MW Total War and after several failed attempts to run a campaign gave up. Since then its my impression that the core wargaming community found much fault with the game and walked away. I took a look at some of the blog posts on the link you sent and they seem to focus on the need to improve the AI. I'll be interested to take a look at it but I think there will be healthy skepticism.

Thanks for reassurance re. Windows98, too. I'll keep an eye on this thread or others with similar titles.

Gunfreak24 Nov 2009 12:44 p.m. PST

The total war games aren't true wargames,

Total war is hollywood history, not based on real histroy.
Nice to look at, but not any real tactics or strategy

Battleground Waterloo, and all the rest of the Napoleonic Battleground games are available from Matrix Games:

I have them all. In fact, these games are what got me interested in Napoleonic miniature gaming.

M C MonkeyDew01 Dec 2009 3:12 p.m. PST

I bought them from Matrix on 11/21.

Despite my machine exceeding the specified requirements they will not run.

Opened a trouble ticket with them and they asked me to run diagnostics on 11/22 which I did and sent to them.

Haven't heard from them since.

I am underwhelmed with their support to say the least.

Turns out the Matrix version at least has trouble with 64 bit Vista.

They've been good enough to issue a refund.
