I have some of my Elite miniatures Landwehr battalions to paint up. The figures are in corsehut (a hat with one side folded up) and short jackets. Would these figures definitely be in light grey or would some have green tunics? Is the facing colour a) always red/crimson b) varies with parent regiment (assuming these would be 4th battalions) c) varies with region I have seen the plates here
link and here link But I am not sure any of these plates match the uniforms I have. Perhaps someone else who has seen the figures can help me? I am a bit wishy-washy on the period I want them for. So that doesn't help me get a clear answer! |

Landwehr seem to have worn a variety of uniforms depending on where they were raised and who by. If you want a particular unit a bit of research will probably give you basic details of colours. If you are just after 'generic' Landwehr however, grey, green and brown seem to have been popular colours. As for facings? I have seen plenty of red, green and yellow in various sources. So pick your own combo. No one can say it is wrong because the definitive source regarding what was actually worn doesn't exist! |

The plates are from the 1809 Landwehr with grey, green and brown varying according to region. I do not know the Elite figures but according to the description these are rather from the 1813-1814 period. The facing colour then varied with the parent regiment. |

The Landwehr of 1809 and that of 1813+ had rather different uniforms. So I am afraid you need to make your decision concerning the period first. The Eder-Plates give you plenty of information for 1809. In 1813 the Landwehr-Battalions, which wore Corsehüte, had iron-grey coats and black belts, facings like the regiment they at this time were part of. |
