Just found this information when I was looking up some history stuff on a website. I found that in 1959 the U.S. Army did a feasibility study for making a military base on the moon called Project HORIZON. In case anyone is interested I've found an army.mil website with PDF's of the Project HORIZON feasibility reports. link I thought someone interested in 1950-60 SF wargaming might like to read them. |

I bet this was updated in the late 60s and 70s, after we actually went to the moon, but is still classified. |

Sounds rather like the Moonbase in UFO, only they plan to build it underground, and there is no mention of interceptors to fight off aliens. Without women in purple wigs, and nice looking uniforms on the moon, I am unwilling to volunteer for service. Perhaps there is one already there. That would explain some of the edited footage of the moon's surface, and the secret missions of the space shuttle (the smaller, secret moon shuttle is carried in the cargo bay into orbit, and then transits from there to the moon, instead of being top secret satellite launches). Thanks for sharing the link to the reports. I have never seen those before. |

TGA, google for "FDL 5," it will make your day. LH/Flourine aerospike with drop tanks, it looked like the original Planet of the Apes capsule, with swing wings that deployed for subsonic flight. Rumoured to have actually flown, albeit unmanned. |
