<necromancy> Arise!</necromancy>

I should vanity-search my name on TMP more often;

"Reasons NOT to get into "FoW"", 17 Dec 2008. Most people admit it happens in games for one reason or another. At least one says – doesn't happen. That's just one thread. And both of the people who said they've never heard of anyone making that claim posted to the discussion. 'Nuff said.

Sundance, perhaps people would take your posts more seriously if you'd develop some reading comprehension. You'll clearly see that I never said it doesn't happen; I said I've never seen it happen.

I could have made it clearer, I suppose; I'm not denying it happens. It's just that it's hardly a defining feature of the game.

As a committed BKC player who's never played FOW I'm jealous of all the attention FOW gets! Is it in proportion to the percentage of FOW WW2 gamers?

It's not really bad until you start stacking the tanks.

It is a gamer thing rather than a problem with a particular rules set.
I also think its a lack of subtlety rather than necessarily just bad tactics – all too often it works successfully in games, particularly in competitions where it is all just about winning.
I dont personally think gaming is just about stomping the helpless opposition with invincible units, but I do know players who think a balanced WW2 German force is 24 elite jagdtigers with artillery support from the Tirpitz.

I suspect the hub to hub thing is usually just the result of using too many units in too big a scale on too small a table. Ive been guilty of that myself in the past. 20mm and 15 mm are more suited to small unit actions than massed tank battles.

Still, it takes all sorts and if some players enjoy games where they just line up tanks and pound away at each other, then fine.

This really is just a scale thing….in reality the models will have 20 yards between them….some people just don't have the imagination for the 15mm scale…….or don't like the appearance but there should be no real issue with realism.

Now the thing that does bother me is the use of "exact" line of sight rules….the models are taking up 5 times or more the actual space they should on the table which makes the way line of sight and terrain work in these rules a bit absurd.

And in reality, that is far too close a distance! grin
