Hi, I play flames of war and have very recently started playing skirmish rules as well (ARC of Fire with the skirmish campaigns books) I really like the system and am enjoying repelling the Fascist hordes from the Motherland. However I have seen the BattleFront release for La Drang Valley
. It has got me thinking how good a 15mm skirmish game would be for vietnam. Does anyone have any aircraft rules/stats for Arcf of Fire? or can recommend a system with: Arc of Fires simplicity The ability to play company level Helicopter transport/attack rules Aircraft rules (or at least strafe/bomb runs) I will have a go at making some house rules but was wondering if it has been done already. Thanks Glennister |

"However I have seen the BattleFront release for La Drang Valley
." It's actually the Ia Drang valley, but whatever
"It has got me thinking how good a 15mm skirmish game would be for Vietnam." Aren't nearly all Vietnam wargame rules skirmish (i.e. 1 figure = 1 man) level? Take a look here: link I would suggest Stargrunt II. Written for SF, but hard SF that they would easily work for Vietnam with a little tweaking of weapon stats. PDF link |

Wouldn't you call in air support like normal? |

"Aren't nearly all Vietnam wargame rules skirmish (i.e. 1 figure = 1 man) level?" Two of the main ones I have are Flashpoint and The Men of Company B and they both are played with bases of multiple figures. |

Force on Force will work, and they're cranking away on the "Ambush Valley" Vietnam specific ruleset (including campaign rules) as we speak. AV should be available by the end of the year. Just a thought for you, though: do you *really* want to move 150+ individual figures just on your side of the table? Company level games (like Flames of War) are the point where I seriously prefer team basing over individual basing. |

Obviously I am not impartial, but I think the Force-on-Force rules would cover everything you are looking for. AND like Lion mentions above, ABUSH VALLEY is coming out SOON! This is going to cover Vietnam like never before. I am incredibly pleased with the oustanding work Piers has done on this supplement – and the campaign rules ROCK! WHOO HOO!!! |

"Fireteam Vietnam" by Buck Surdu is a smaller scale game very similar to "Beer And Pretzels Skirmish" (BAPS). It is simple to play and does cover aircraft. |

Ambush Valley is going to be a lot of fun! I know because I've had the privilege to see it and play it some. I really enjoy FOF and AA and demo them for my cons all the time. I will be getting it as soon as it comes off the press! I will be running a very large 3 session Vietnam game at HMGS Recon 10 and Jacksonville Garrison Rapier 10 (in Coca Beach Fl and Jacksonville Fl) next year I am still probably going to use Flashpoint for VERY LARGE battles involving multiple companies up to Battalion but for skirmish games up to a company in size I think FOF will work great. I also use FNG for platoon and squad based games which is a great game. I've actually ran a FNG game with multiple companies but I had to modify some of the rules such as attributes as the record keeping for that would be too cumbersome but like all THWG they are well played! |
