Captain Apathy19 Nov 2009 6:41 a.m. PST

Very cool! I love the shelves in the background.

What no tweed jackets? LOL nice pics and I echo the love of the shelves. Always wanted that myself. Then I would be forced to paint more of my stuff so I don't know…

Yes, it is still in operation, managed by Gerry Elliot and Mike Ingham. They have a yahoo discussion group called Grand Manner:

Here is a copy of their 2010 programme:

2010 PROGRAMME

We are pleased to present our games for the coming year, the eighteenth programme under the joint management of Mike Ingham and Gerry Elliott.

This year sees only Napoleonic battles being offered, our WWII and ACW games have been booked for private parties.
As in previous years, this year will see a number of new battles pitched among our, ever popular, old classic battles. It does sound like an old cliché, but we do urge you to book early for your favourite games so that you are not disappointed.

All games take place on a 28 ft by 15 ft table with purpose built terrain. Figures and models are on a 25-28 mm scale hand painted to a high standard. Our house rules are based on Grand Manner. There is at least one full time umpire in attendance throughout the games. No extra equipment is required but we do recommend that you undertake training in the skills of throwing dice and shouting
"Hurrah".

Great stuff, very nostalgic. Reminds me of some old black and white photos I took of a Napoleonic game from around the same time frame. Being on a very limited budget at the time, I probably scrimped on the film and processing to have more cash for miniatures!

Count Belisarius20 Nov 2009 12:23 a.m. PST

I think I went for black and white as my brother did his own developing so I wouldn't need to pay for processing!

Agree about the Battle mag look. I'm currently reading through all my old copies and enjoying the nostalgia.

Now, I really need to find those slides…

Thank for looking. It was nice to finally find them!

28 foot long by about 8 foot wide, a 3 foot gap, then a 28x4 section IIRC, boards could be placed to fill in the gap where needed, and you crawled to the empty sections.

I used to love the Gilder shots in the magazines….eye candy at its very best!
