Ok, so I recently moved into a much smaller place and realized I have placed most of my hobby stuff in storage. I have also realized that 90% of the hobby is now painting and terrain building for me, as I have virtually no opportunity to do the playing of the game side of the hobby. So, in a effort to reduce costs and display area, I have decided to switch to 15mm as my scale of choice. This will be much more affordable and have a smaller footprint in my home. And since I do mostly paper/cardstock scenery, it is a simple matter to rescale everything at 60% before I print it out and assemble it. I ordered some Felids and Marines from Khurasan on Monday to jumpstart my sci-fi efforts, and I have some FoW stuff left over to get my Modern groove going on. And Splintered Light is looking good for fantasy, so I am all set

As a 15mm gamer who got lost in the fog of 28mm for awhile,I say good choice. |

Feel free to shoot me an email about various options in 15mm as I know most of the stuff out there. David Splintered Light Miniatures |

Welcome to 15mm, I made the change and am very glad I did. Anything we can do to help, just let us know. Lots of 15mm SciFi pictures on this thread: TMP link or maybe this one: TMP link Jeff |

Great news. Now just send all your other minis to me. Good luck with the 15's. |

I like 15s. My table is 4X6 and isn't going to get any larger unless I hit the lottery big time. I can tell you about 15s in ACW, SYW and Napoleonic periods. |

I think you've got it backwards. I think of 25mm as a painting scale and 15mm as more of a gaming scale. Since you paint a lot and play very little wouldn't it make more sense to choose the scale that's better suited for painting and just make your rare games smaller? . |

I paint what makes my fingers itch
no matter what scale ;) |

I'm struggling with this issue myself. Can 15mm be reasonably single-based? |

Since I emigrated I have used my 15mm and 6mm figures much more than my 25mm figures. My 25mm stuff needs more storage than all the 15mm and 6mm figures and scenery combined, even though I have less figures in 25mm than in either 15mm or 6mm. |

I've got to agree with Bede
I 'added' 15mm to my hobby as my playing scale, because I too have limited space. It's great to be able to play some Ambush Alley on a 2 x 2 table! That said, I'm mainly a painter, and 28s are much more fun to paint. Okay, I tend to paint them and stick them on the shelf to gather dust, but so what. One of these days I'll bust them all out for a big game or two. |

I do 28 and 10mm. Which gives me leeway should I have to move to a smaller place or if something the size of the Pentagon comes up for sale

So what will you do with all your 25mm/28mm stuff? |

I did the same since I went to a gigantic house to a tiny apartment. :( |

I once made a "life decision" to switch to 15mm exclusively. The next week I made another "life decision" to switch to 6mm exclusively. The week after that I put my hand on my heart and said "I swear from now on I will only do 28mm". 3 days later I made a blood oath that I would only ever do 54mm. Today I still have 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 28mm, 54mm, and 90mm figures. But I swear from this day forth I will only do 20mm! |

Pretty much the same here. However, as I got older my life change was that I couldn't see 15s anymore. Made the pledge and switch to 40s. |

Thank you all for the kind words. About my 25/28s, right now they are all in storage. I imagine that some day I will be moving back to a bigger place (or that wife's daughter will move out of our current place, she 20) and I will have more room for my hobby. And I will have more time, etc. But given time, space, and budget constraints, 15mm seems like the best idea for now. And for those of you who offered assistance in finding answers, I will be in touch as things come up. Thank you again :) |

I tyhink I am moving into that direction too. Those FOW Nam minis look really tempting to replace my 20mm with. |

Would switch to 6mm without even the space aspect, but still got to play with guys owning 10,15 and 28mm so
Trying to skirmish in 15mm instead of 28 or 20mm though!! and like the look of it :) |

I'm excited about starting my 15mm sci-fi collection. I have a ton of 40k stuff – but really just not into it anymore. Mostly play naval and starship games now – although once I finish our 15mm sci-fi rules I'm sure that will make it into the rotation as well. ;) |
