I'm looking for a good representation of the alien exo suit from District 9.

Here are some some reference stills for those that don't still have the image fresh in their minds.

Most of the models I found so far in 15mm look to be oversized. Overall it looks to me to be slightly taller than one the the D9 shacks and as I recall fit into a building with a normal height ceiling.

My recommendation would be to use the "Large Mecha Units" from GZG in the link below, maybe with a different head?

Hopefully someone else has a better idea, but failing that, it's an idea.

I've got two that might fit the bill. Both are from Dream Pod 9's Heavy Gear range;
1. CEF Flail suit:

2. CEF Alpha Squad Pack:

I would change the head on the flail and thin the legs out. That's my suggestion.

If you want to make your own, the artist who designed the Prawn mech has the concept art up on his blog.

I am currently using that art to make a resin garage kit for it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone! Now that you mention it and I look at the concept art more closely, the head does seem to be one of the defining characteristics of the suit. Maybe I'll look into similar looking heads that I can attach to one of the suggested models.

MechanicalHorizon, sounds like an interesting project. I'd love to see some pictures, definitely of the finished product and even of the work in progress if you are the type to show off works in progress.

I'll post pics of it eventually but I need to get info about how to get a license for it so I can cast them up and sell them, if I even need a license at all.

Anyone have any idea how I would go about this, or if I even need a license to sell a garage kit?

Just make it loosely "inspired by" but not an exact replica, therefore there's no IP hassles. However, if you want exactly replicate the suit and use "District 9" in the name, you have to get a license and that's a lot of money, especially for a recent major film.
