Just wondering what games my fellow GMs might be running at Cold Wars?

I'm still debating what I'm going to run. I've run several samurai and WWII skirmish games in the past. One of my friends is already likely to run one or more WWII games using my house rules, so I may do a Samurai skirmish game and a Starship Troopers game. My FIW and SYW collections are not completed enough for running a game yet, so other options would be a Weird WW2 scenario, 15mm Sci-fi, or a 28mm zombie game. Decisions, decisions..

I plan to do a 28mm League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vs Martians and other evil types. A combination of Book 1 and Book 2.

Pictors Studio18 Nov 2009 9:38 a.m. PST

I will probably run either a Carlist War game using Black Powder, a WSS game using Black Powder or a Starship Troopers game in 15mm using a rule system yet to be determined. I have the Carlist War stuff done so the big question is will I have time to finish the other stuff for the other games. There is enough WSS stuff for a small game now and more was primed last night so that stands a good chance, but so far there are only 3 15mm bugs finished and I haven't even bought all the ones I would need. Not by a long shot.

The troopers are done but none of the terrain is built and the civilians have only been primed.

I will run my Teddy Bear kids game and a Sharpe skirmish with 40mm Sash and Saber using a Lord of the Rings variant.

PRIDE OF LIONS rules will (finally!) be out, and I'll be running learn-the-rules games (fantasy mass combat)I think six times, Thursday through Saturday evening.

As part of the Battle Barn, I intend to run a Sioux Wars game called Stage Station.

My home done rules are simple. I ran it at HMGS-Great Lakes Advance the Colors. Within three turns, players needed little supervision. I use mostly Foundry figures with a Dixon stage coach. There is also a scratch built stage station, a bunch of Sioux and a cavalry troop.

I will be running 3 Death Race games using the new Road Rage rules by Phil Tortorici. The Games at Hurricon and Fall In were a great time for all. You can check out the Hurricon games here. link

I will be running a SeeKrieg V game, althought I have not decieded what scenario to run. I am open to suggestions as I have most ships from the Russo-Japanese war thru WW2 although not all are painted.

AWI … Battle of of Chatterton's Hill, or Guilford CH using British Grenadier! rules. And ECW campaign of some sort, TBA.

I'm contemplating a WWI dogfight game to be carried out in two sessions. One will be at, oh, I suppose 10 am. The second at 4pm.

In game session 1, I'll provide primered but unpainted wood biplane and triplane models, acrylic craft paints, and brushes for the players to custom paint their airplane. Examples of historic planes will be provided. A small fan will aid in quick air drying.

Between games, I'll decal the planes with roundels.

Game session 2 will be the battle using the custom planes (and stock ones from my collection for those who didn't paint one) and my home rules. The game, Lethal Pass,is quick to learn and play, so we'll do several scenarios.

The gamers will get to keep their aircraft. I hope to engage the imagination of all in creating clever names for the pilots, as well…Flight Officer Nigel Woggingtipple, Baron von Picklechipz, etc.

I expect a younger crowd, but I've had youngsters as old as 50 play in my wooden pirate games and love it.

If Mal's Deadly Waters comes out in time for me to get familiar and if it lends itself to a Con, I'll run one or two. If not, a couple of US v Japan in 1915 using General Quarters 3.

Jimmy da Purple19 Nov 2009 8:08 a.m. PST

Jimborex-Sounds awesome. Are those the kids kits with all the peices paint and stuff from the craft store? If so, I did that with their dreadnaught ship model at Fall-in as a kids bath tub game. I did not let them paint them because I was worried about timw for drying. I'll be interested in how it works out for you.

This will be an exclusive Carnage and Glory convention for me…40mm Napoleonics, 40mm AWI, 28mm Napoleonics and if I'm lucky I may get to take a beta version of the CG pike and shot rules out for a 28mm Eastern Renaissance (Poles vs. Russians vs. Turks) test drive.

I'm considering running (along with a friend) the Brother Against Brother/Burnside's Bridge game again. We ran it at last year's Cold Wars and at Historicon. I think we have the victory conditions finalized for the scenario we have been running, but I want to try someting a little different. I'm contemplating maybe running a slightly different game each time (each based on an historical assault time) as a change of pace from the last two conventions.

Colonel Bill19 Nov 2009 1:57 p.m. PST

I will most certainly be running one or two games of Blenheim to promote the convention release of Age of Honor, the Lace Wars expansion module to Age of Eagles (Napoleonic Fire & Fury).

I'm also strongly considering running an AOE game on Busaco, as it is the 200th anniversary and our next AOE module will be Napoleon vs Britain.

Thursday I am running my sled dog racing game and a wierd winter war with finns, yetis and allies vs Soviets and chumans.
Friday I am running three Vietnam games with FNG rules (2 hour wargames) using RLBPS' Jungle rot minis

jimborex21 Nov 2009 9:37 p.m. PST

Jimmy da Purple,
My son played your wooden battleship game at Fall In. My brilliant idea is actually yours refined and gone airborne. I should have given you credit up front.

I know the glue drying was a problem, hence I'm providing primed models. I will do an early session for painting so the stuff can be dry by game time.

Look for the game at Cold Wars, and maybe even at Wiliamsburg Muster if you can make it.

Awesome, I will have to come by and check it out.

I have just sent in my Gnome Wars games. It is the start of the "The Haute Route" campaign. The schedule is as follows:

1. Friday 7pm
2. Sat 2pm
3. Sat 8pm

Hope to see you all there.

StantonCT:

Like many others, I've come to love the Gnomes. The games are great, especially for parents who want to play a game with their children. Looks like there will be plenty of them to love. Your games always look great. Must be all that great looking terrain. However did you come up with so much of it?

For myself, I've sent in the following games, all for Friday, all Gnome-free:

Noon: Russian Civl War
4pm: AWI
8pm: More AWI

Hope to see you there.

Just a quick reminder that the deadline to submit games for the Cold Wars 2010 Preliminary Event List (PEL) is this Friday, Dec. 11.

Goldwyrm08 Dec 2009 11:11 a.m. PST

Thank you for the reminder. I'm still on the fence with my choices.

Only a few hours left to get in your games before the Cold Wars 2010 PEL deadline closes.

Samosierra (Spain 1808) with Lasalle – likely Friday afternoon.

I am running a Check Your 6! game called Enter The Luftwaffe. It is the aerial attack against the HMS Illustrious during a convoy run to Malta. It will most likely be held on Thursday night.

We are doing two Mexican American War battles. Palo Alto Friday and Resca de La Palma Saturday using Regimental Fire and Fury Play test. This will give General Arista a chance to counter the Flying Batteries of General Taylor.
Cheers,
Joel in Northern Virginia

Some very good games have been listed so far.

Now that the PEL deadline has passed, you should know what games (if any) you sent in for Cold Wars.

If GMs keep posting about what they sent in, we'll have our own pre-PEL PEL. Like the "preview of coming attractions" at the movies.

I would rather hear about games at Cold Wars than wait to hear about Historicon.
