The cost of posting a parcel of miniatures from the UK by air seems over the top – compared to US to Australia rates. The best I can find is DHL – 75 quid for 10kg. Anyone know of something cheaper? The US flat rate box has to be one of the best inventions of the last 100 years. |

Just had a quick look and that £75's the best I can find too (well £71.25 GBP – there's a 5% discount because I use them already) – agreed entirely on USPS flat rate boxes, but no other country seems to have an equivalent, so for shipping lead nobody comes close to the USPS. (Out of curiosity I just took a look at Australia post for the cost of the opposite trip as it were, and that's £120+, so it doesn't seem so terrible – indeed checking ParcelForce for the equivalent UK service, that comes to £121.19, so the Americans have got us both well beaten

Another vote for the plastic renaissance! Not so. All that extra volume from wasteful plastic sprues affects package size, and therefore cost. Big light items can be as bad as small heavy ones when it comes to shipping by air because of the amount of space they take up in the hold. |

You'll find most shipping systems are using 'volumetric weight' rather than physical weight these days. |

If you keep the individual parcels small then the small packet rate is meant to be considerably cheaper than sending the equivalent as 1 big parcel. That was a while ago though, so I'm not sure if it stll holds. Mind you 10kg is an awful lot of miniatures! |

as do cavalier I think, keep the box under a kilo and you should be Ok. Another option is see mail or a figure Mule! cheers Matt |

Postage the other way from Australia, as pointed out, is quite different. A small parcel that can be sent to the UK for nearly 10 bucks (aus) can be sent to the US for around 6 dollars. I've sent parcels weighing 300g to the UK for 27 dollars; however 600g to the US and Canada is just over 20 dollars. All via airmail. <tongue in cheek> Maybe its because as the UK sent its unwanted people to Australia 200 years ago, it charges a tariff on anything coming back in! |
