Holy crap.

T'other week a fellow militaria collector found a pouch badge to the Royal Highland Emigrants (circa 1775) whilst metal detecting in Canada. I thought that was cool.

This is a WHOLE 'nother level.

Incredible! Both the importance and richness of the find, and the fact that he just hopped out of his car and found this pile almost immediately.
Makes me wonder how much more is left unfound.

do ya thin maybe there are more finds now becasue we are running out of topsoil?

I'm sure his wife gave him a load of crap about spending 240 pounds on a metal detector while she was pregnant…score one for the nerds

I'm going to run it past my wife- worth it for detecting knives and forks in the kitchen alone, I would have thought!

Well I guess it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

This really great! Nice to see a break happening to a regular guy.

Thanks,

John

Sigh… I keep digging up wrought nails and the odd bits of iron fittings and horseshoes in the back yard. Haven't found anything valuable, though…….

I did discover an old well that wasn't listed on the deed, however.

How did he know he 'might have found gold'? Have detectors got a whole lot more sophisticated since I was a kid?
