Hi all as I've mentioned in other posts I'm trawling ebay and putting together an old Wood Elf army together with 80s era citadel minis –

Just finished the next addition – an old citadel (I think) Treeman – if anyone knows different or can confirm it that would be great.

It is citadel, it's Treebeard from the 1st LOTR line picture

Thanks – Dunno which position I prefer for the arms now – the impression of Frankenstein's monster my mini is doing or the catalogue pose in your link!

Sorry to digress from topic but I love your Rogue Trader Imperial Guards and Space Marines too!

I agree with swordlord. Both the classic wood elf and imperial gaurd armies are looking very good.

Thanks everyone – most kind! Another couple of additions – Warhound and Wildcat animal handlers!

Think the cats look a little more tigery than the Scottish wildcat effect I was trying to get but they'll do for now.

Looks like I'm going to be left with hordes of Elf archers to paint if I keep going for all the interesting stuff first!

The IG army was a lot of fun – resurrecting old minis and fleshing out collections with ebay purchases seems to have been a bit of a theme for the past couple of years! Wish I'd had the skills and finances, such as they are, that I have today – although I did have more mates who were gamers back then!

Back to the elves – another animal handler – Elf and Bear – what a combo!

Back in the day i painted up a gurt WFB wood elf army, possibly the only time i ever finished painting an army. They were and are lovely minis. Its core was a couple of 10 elf cavalry units, one lancers, one archers, 3 20 elf archer units and 1 20 elf spear unit. I also had treemen, unicorns with female wizards, a pegasus and a load of other stuff. I colour coded the whole lot by unit, it was a very nice project and i loved playing with the resuling force.

Unfortunately i sold it back in the 80's when i decided i wanted an Empire army, which i nearly finished……

Sounded great Stewbags –

here's another beauty!

Skarloc from the old Regiments of Renown box – Skarloc's Wood Elf Archers.

Hey Thantsants – have you got any armylist that your painting too? Is the end goal to have a battle? if so who's the enemy?!

Thantsants14 Dec 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

Yeah bought the army to vaguely fit in with a list – I need to write it up maybe – using the old 3rd ed. Warhammer Armies book of course – loads of complicated numbers to add up! The enemy at the mo are my old 3rd ed. orcs that have been sat in a box and are badly in need of a repaint and repair. Mostly though its a bit of a nostalgia trip!

Have recently bought a copy of Song of Blades and Heroes – a fantastic skirmish game – so might be tempted into painting up a small orc warband to face off against the Elves I've done so far…

Who knows I might even write up a scenario which uses SOBH for minor engagements between various personalities and WFB 3rd ed. for the big set piece battles!

Only got about 90 elves and who knows how many orcs to paint before then though!

arabianknight16 Dec 2009 5:25 a.m. PST

I can't face buying and painting up large armies so in a similar thought I'm putting together small warbands for SOBH as well.

Keeps my projects (at least my projected ones for 2010) managable and achievable for me anyway.

Thantsants16 Dec 2009 6:39 p.m. PST

Don't blame you! I want to repaint my old Ruglud's armoured orcs and some archers and an old ogre to actually play a game for once! But then again all these elf archers keep looking at me with their sad unpainted faces…

Just finished the rest of Skarloc's command group –

Thantsants; there's a Zoat wizard up for sale on ebay that might interest you. (Not my auction BTW).

Link; auction

Yikes – £12.00 GBP is a bit out of budget for me considering what I've forked out already – don't tell the missus!
Have also ordered more expensive Dr Who stuff to feed my other obsession on the sly so although I'm tempted….

Cheers for the heads up though – it is a V. Cool mini!
