1505-1550 or so, made by Mike Broadbent -- a complete line, pikes and halberds, arquebusiers, commanders, and an artillerist.

Should be available by around yuletime, so it will be a Merry Swissmas!

15mm I presume?

Dropship Horizon17 Nov 2009 11:37 a.m. PST

There is a dearth of Renaissance Swiss as opposed to late Medieval Swiss in 15mm. Good on yer Jon!

Can you let us know WHAT the range comprises of.

Cheers
Mark

Correct, Mostly Harmless!

Mark the range is comprised of:

1) Swiss armoured pikemen/halberdiers (four poses)
2) Swiss unarmoured pikemen/halberdiers (four poses)
3) Swiss arquebusiers (three poses)
4) Swiss command (standard, drummer, officer)
5) Swiss small cannon with crewman

Plus one surprise figure that goes with the range, sort of … but is not Swiss. grin

Pikes and halberds will be separate, but will slip right into the hands of the models, like on my Norman cavalry, which people seem to like because it's so easy to fix the spear into the hands. This also benefits people who replace spears with wire or broombristles, as it makes their job vastly easier.

By the way Mark I'm also making 15mm Early Medieval Swiss (they are complete and will be available for sale soon), so yes I am bracketing the common Swiss models, those in High Gothic dress for the Burgundian Wars, which you can already get from several sources in 15mm.

I hope you are tagged and on the Swisspikeblockeophile offenders register

Any idea on how they will size up compared to Venexia? – I like the look, and will probably want a nice pike block or two.

Condottiere17 Nov 2009 6:38 p.m. PST

Looking good!!! Will definitely order many of these. Merry Swissmas to you too!

I, too, would like to know who they will look next to Venexia's Swiss and Landsknechts!

Is this the beginning of a larger Italian wars range?

Is this the beginning of a larger Italian wars range?

Apparently so. In another thread Khurasanminiatures wrote:

"I'm going to be releasing two lines of models for the Renaissance in the next few months, because a successful set of rules is expanding into that period, if that provides any sort of circumstancial evidence in this discussion."

Looking forward to it.

Actually the other range will be from the ECW. I would like to make gendarmes and all that other good stuff, but I've got a bunch more millennium stuff to make before working on Italian wars models. I really just wanted to make a Swiss standalone force for the great battles of the middle stage of the Italian Wars, from Novara to Pavia, though these models will be fine to cover Swiss from around 1500 until the adoption of pluderhosen.

Condottiere29 Nov 2009 10:30 a.m. PST

Renaissance wargaming certainly could use proper Swiss models.

WIll they be compatible with Venexia and Mirliton 15s?

khurasanminiatures30 Nov 2009 4:46 p.m. PST

Sorry, I don't know. How big are those to eye?

Condottiere30 Nov 2009 5:21 p.m. PST

About 17mm to the eye.

khurasanminiatures01 Dec 2009 6:01 a.m. PST

I don't know about Venexia, but is mirliton really that big? Also are including the figurine's base?

Mike sculpts about 16mm to the eye, so I would imagine they'd mix fine, especially considering that you'd probably not mix then in the same units.

Condottiere01 Dec 2009 4:27 p.m. PST

16mm to the eye would mix well. My concern is whether they are "true" 15's, meaning 13mm to the eye or so. Thanks for your replies. I will definitely be purchasing a small horde or two.

khurasanminiatures05 Dec 2009 3:41 p.m. PST

Update -- just commissioned another early ren army today. Won't see the light of day for a while, though. The Swiss are essentially complete, and they look great.

Condottiere06 Dec 2009 6:03 a.m. PST

Any hint at what the new commission encompasses? (Man you really are a lead tease!) laugh

khurasanminiatures15 Dec 2009 11:01 p.m. PST

Sorry to say, it fell through. The sculptor was not able to get the hang of 15mm. frown

Condottiere16 Dec 2009 8:04 p.m. PST

Including the initial Swiss offerings?

khurasanminiatures19 Dec 2009 8:57 p.m. PST

No, as I said Mike Broadbent is making the Swiss. Mike has the hang of 15mm. grin. I've shown images of them in this thread.
