BBC had an article about Tito's private islands off the coast of Croatia. Like something right out of a 60's spy novel. Google Maps: link The article: link Need to find some pictures of the villas. |

Just before the war in former Yugoslavia, I was a guest at one of these private island villas of one of Titos inner circle men. The man had passed away but his family had inherited the island and the villa. I was quite intriguing to stay at the villa that stilled house a lot of private memorabilia from Tito and his time. Shortly after the war the villa was burned down (by the locals?) and the family lost all claim to the property and the Island. It was a fun experience and a great place to stay. regards Thomas |

I am somehow reminded of the Largo Winch comic book series – the second album features a fight on a hidden villa off the Yugoslavian coast. |

The place is now open for the tourists. My parents in law,who live in a city some 100km way fro the island of Brijuni,go there regularly for a picnic or a day trip. There are some Roman ruins there,so,in summer they stage various Shekespeare's and other classical plays there, under the stars. |

Another picture of Brijuni. picture And here's a fishing village in Montenegro that was turned into a luxury island hotel. All it's missing is an underground submarine base and a volcano. Sveti Stefan: picture |
