Just a random enquiry. Does anyone have any thoughts on which manufacturers make the best 15mm ranges for Arthurian gaming and which manufacturers mesh well scale wise. So that would be Britons (with perhaps a distinct proto-Welsh), Saxons, Picts, Irish. Cheers Nic |

Outpost probably the single range that stands out, these mix in well with Minifigs,Essex and Magister Militum (Saxons and Late Romans)both worth looking at although Essex's Saxons are too late looking and too heavily equiped for my liking. The U.S. Splintered Light range looks good, but I have never seen them in the flesh. Old Glory also loks good, if you can get them down there in poor cricketing land. My own armies are mainly M.Militum/Outpost and various other for the evil, dirty Saxons and Outpost with a few odd others for the gallant and noble men of Britain. I also have Picts from Falcon (but don't think these are available now) and a small Irish force mainly form Feudal castings and Essex. Graham |

The Outpost figures have always struck me as temptingly interesting when I've seen them at a show. I've used some of their middle eastern horse archer types and thought that those at least were nice castings to work on This is the link to Outpost link You have to chase through the site to get to the Gallery showing the Romano British, but most of the range are there. |

Thanks all for the fast responses. Splintered Light are an attractive choice
I like the Bernard Cornwell inspired wolf-tail warriors. |

I found the Outpost ones fiddly to put together and prone to damage as the weapons are very thin – nice sculpts though. Feudal castings and Essex form the bulk of my forces (the two are indistinguishable in size & style) but the old Falcon Picts are there in small numbers. They aren't the most animated figures but they do paint up well and quickly – important for me as I wanted them quickly and in some numbers. Between the two ranges you can have quite a choice of poses and there are other 'spearmen' types from other ranges that will add even more variety. |

Splintered Light, Essex, Old Glory are what I use. I have not gotten around to ordering Outpost yet. They look really good as well. |

I like the Splintered Light myself. They have a lot of character and are wonderful sculpts. Jeff |

Splintered Light are awesome sculpts. If the 15mm ranges available now were available 10 years ago I would have gone for them instead of 28mm for sure. |

Nic, I would be happy to send you a few samples of the Splintered Light ranges. As DocMcb said, Picts will hopefully be out by the end of the year but we do have the Romano-British, Early Saxons, and Irish. you can email me at splinteredlightminis[at]earthlink[dot]net David |

Another for Slintered Light. I have had the chance to see these close up and in person at a number of Southern shows. You would not be disappointed. |

I'll pile on with the Splintered Light minis. They are easily one of the best sculpts out there for Arthurian models period! The first pick I saw of them had me confused, I was sure that I was looking at a 25mm model! They are awesome minis and are full of character and detail. I second Moose above, if Splintered Light was around back in 2000 I would have gone 15mm there and then! Oh well, better late than never :D |

I like Outpost, but the loose shields and spears are really annoying
less than 50% of my models still have both
:( Only the shields are loose on the Splintered Light minis. |

Does anyone have any thoughts on Khurasan miniatures? link They seem to have useful looking German and late Roman ranges, how would they mix with Splintered Light? Cheers |

Never seen or heard of Outpost before but they do look good. As I will be building a large Later Macedonian Army next year I will see if I can have a look at them when I get to my next show. Thanks Craig |

HarryHotspur, the Khurasan Germans and Late Romans fit in well with Splintered Light and Outpost. |

I'm looking forward to the Splintered Light Picts. The Irish, Britons, and Saxons are excellent. |

The Splintered Light samples arrived today. They are an animated bunch – and very hairy! I think every figure had either a long mustache or more often a full beard. Very dark ages-esque. There was a little flash on the models but nothing off putting. They are of slightly different dimensions to Essex sculpts, a fraction taller but with slightly smaller heads. The infantry would probably still mix pretty well. The horses are significantly smaller and skinnier than Essex and I wouldn't mix them on the same stands. All in all I'd say they'd make a fine army, either with all figs. Splintered Light, or else infantry mixed with other manufacturers. I can feel my need to build an Arthurian army growing! |
