Fabulous, superbly done – gee whiz if this movie gets out into the mainstream the guys with the Dreadnought models and rules wont be able to keep up with demand. |

It's an excellent film in many ways, and very interesting in terms of its timing (couldn't have been made in Russia until now, basically). I got a copy (English sub-titles etc) through Amazon. |

I liked the one where he was chased by the Headless Motorcyclist. |

It's an excellent film in many ways, and very interesting in terms of its timing (couldn't have been made in Russia until now, basically). I got a copy (English sub-titles etc) through Amazon. From my skim through of the You-Tube clips, it appears to be very "political" in an undoubtedly pro Putin sense. The need for a "strong leader" is reaffirmed. The traditions – both military and religious – of Mother Russia are reaffirmed. And the Bolshies are portrayed as dirty dogs. All sounds pretty convenient to me. But the film is visually gorgeous and the action sequences are very nice – when they eventually happen. |

And the strong leader is shot and shoved in a hole in the ice. One can only hope. It was a good movie and the battle scenes were terrific. Only wish they had some R-J War scenes. |

I got the dvd from Belle and Blade at Fall in. Just started to watch, up to the March revolution. I suppose they need something for the non-gamers, but I find the triangle love situation getting in the way of the otherwise interesting story. |

huevans, there's a slew of movies coming out of Russia that reflect Putin's agenda – 1613 is a good case in point, as is the new version of Taras Bulba, released in about April this year. Similar efforts have been made in Poland, from the other side as it were. I thought Admiral a little more balanced than that, in the sense that while the reds are portrayed as brutal etc, as you say, there are several scenes where the *fact* of the Civil war is given a more disapssionate treatment of a kind not possible until now. |

Movie is horribly long and Ek Boyarskaya is a terrible actress- it is certainly NOT enough that she is a daughter of famous Russian actor. Konst Khabensky ( of Nightwatch fame) is pretty convincing as Adm Kolchak, even with some facial likeness. However very little or nothing is on Kolchak's Polar expeditions, his exploits in RJW ( he sank Jap cruiser Takasago) and engagement at Moonzund is quite fictitious- with the whole mine field
Parts of his trip to US and assuming the Command in Siberia is somewhat true, however very little is on the subject of atrocities perpetrated under his command and with his orders. Certainly nothing on the subject of British and US basically abandoning him after the info of his brutality came to light. HOPEFULLY the movie will produce some interest to the subject of RCW and Kolchak himself- a deeply flawed man. There has been a certain revival of "White" movement history in Russia embellishing many of the accounts and portraying "Reds" as ultimate evildoers. Nothing new for Russia- pendulum swings quite wide there. Nothing to do with Putin, BTW, more with general nationalistic tendencies
The truth, as always is somewhere in the grey middle, hard to distinguish, but non the less there

I remember this playing on the Saturday of last Historicon – I'm really happy huevans posted this or I never would have figured out what movie it was! |
