Would this be a foolish move, or should i try it. I dont think i risk losing detail on the models i intend to overpaint, but will it seriously affect the paintwork? Should i strip the models instead (i have doe this succesfully in th epast where the models definitely needed it) |

If I'm just touching up areas (including as much as changing the color of a piece of clothing), I paint straight over the varnish. If I'm going to paint over the entire model, I strip the paint and varnish and do a complete repaint. It takes more time, but I've been happier with the results. (I'm repainting my entire Warhammer Empire Army, stripping the paint off of all of the 200 figures. Oh yeah- taking some time, but it's worth it.) In any case, you will lose some detail; it's really what your tastes are. If it's only one or two figures, I'd say take the time to strip the paint. What figure(s) it it by the way? |

Paint over and avoid the hassle. I've done it several times with no problems. |

I have painted over varnish before no problem. Once, I grabbed a can of varnish instead of black to give some figs their final prime coat. It was early in my defense so when, after a normal amount of spraying I realized what I had done, I put the can back and let them sit. I painted over that no problem. |

I just repainted all my Southern Heavy Gear forces, and yes I stripped every one of them. I had to leaving the old layer just left a too think coat on them and some details were gone. But these are 1/144 scale so I guess it would more likely to happen than on 28mm miniatures. |

I've had varnish frost up, because I sprayed when it was too damp out. Supposedly you can fix this with more varnish, but I didn't know that then, so I repainted the areas. Worked fine. This wasn't GW varnish, it was Rustoleum gloss lacquer followed by Testors Dullcote lacquer, but it should be the same. |

I painted them a few years ago and i think they could do with a re-paint. But in addition, i've got them down to use as a Japanese army in a club campaign in February/March. |
