The recent posting about the French Hussards de la Mort encourage me to ask Alte Fritz about his Prussian Black Hussars. If I recall correctly, they are Stadden figured, 30 mm from the 1970's etc.

They look really good in the 7YW setup you use, Fritz. With which current manufacturer to they seem most compatible? Tradition still makes Stadden 30mm figures, and some of the current gamers might benefit from having some of these in their armies.

Stadden makes a British hussar from the Napoleonic era with the eary, flimsy or floppy, fur busby, that resembles the Black hussars in most other ways: pointed shabraque with Van Dyke edging; tight breeches, and visible hussar boots; slumg pelisse. One of the Osprey books shows a Spanish hussar in this exact uniform, in two tones of green, and this figure might appeal to those who collect Spanish in large 18mm. Your black hussars might even be painted differently, and serve as other Spanish hussar with the mirliton headgear.

Indeed, the Stadden hussars in mirliton could be used for units such as Lauzan's Legion in the AWI, French hussars up through the French Revolution, Prussian hussars from the SYW up to 1806, and any other nation that uses hussars with mirliton. I also use them in my 1806 Prussian army since there were still a couple of units still wearing the mirliton (alas, not HR5 Black Hussars, but in my army, they have not been issued the new shakos).

Probably the closest range size wise would be Elite Miniatures as both are in the 30-32mm range in height.

Thanks, Fritz. I'll have a look into Elite Miniatures.
