The Lucca Comics & Games Show takes place at the end of October every year in the beautiful Tuscan city of Lucca, located just 20 miles north of Pisa in Italy. This 4-day event has risen from humble beginnings to become the largest convention of its kind anywhere in the world. Yet, despite its exponential growth and its stellar commercial success, it still remains something of a mystery to the vast majority of UK and US wargamers.

To put the significance of Lucca Comics & Games into perspective, here are attendance figures of some well-known games shows:

Colours 2009 (Newbury, UK) 2,450
Historicon 2009(Pa,USA) 4,000
Dadi.Com 2008 (Crema, Italy) 6,500
Salute 2009 (London,UK) 8,250
Salon du Jour 2009 (Paris, France) 10,000
Hamburg Tactica 2009 (Hamburg, Germany)
12,000
GenCon 2009 (In,USA) 27,900
Essen 2009 (Essen, Germany) 101,000
Lucca Comics & Games 2009 (Italy)
140,850

I have posted my pics of this year's show in two parts:

Holy cow! Man That place looks awesome! I lived in Italy for 4 years down in Brindisi in the late 80's while I was active duty Air Force. Way back before I got into gaming. Looks like a possible vacation spot in the future.

Thanks for the pics.

(Crying) Their terrain puts any US based convention game to shame… (sniff!)

(Crawls off to a corner to weep)

I visited Lucca once, whilst staying with a colleague from the Università di Pisa. It's a lovely place & well worth a visit – I suspect doubly so if there was a gaming convention happening.

Add my tears to the pot. Wow what a venue. Great pics. It would be great to go as a vendor or an individual.

Thanks

I've been to Lucca years ago and its quite an event.
I liked your pictures but when there are so many in one post my computer gives up halfway and the remaining ones appear as little red crosses,I wish you had spread them over a few more posts enabling me to see them all.

Holy Cow is right:

"Lucca Comics & Games Crew celebrate a record-beating 4-days attendance figure (140,850) for 2009."
