I always liked Clive James, just wished he mentioned the journalist involved, i'm sure I have a spare copy of Battle of Britain somewhere I could send.

Less well remembered but just as important, was the fact that Keith Park took over as air Commander in Malta, and the Italian/German losses shot up and the effectiveness of their raids slid down dramatically from that point.

That's why I've read the Torygraph for years, look at their staff, Max Hastings was editor, Paul Keegan the defense editor. The Indie, a still rag not much better than a red top.

Well done Clive James, and yes scorn and derision for Mary Wakefield

Even less well known is that Sir Keith took over as the Allied Air Commander in SE Asia after his stint on Malta.

Well said Clive!

He has a road named after him in Biggen Hill. Keith Park that is. Not Clive James!

The former mayor of London wanted the Trafalgar Square statues of Generals Havelock and Napier replaced, on the basis that "no one knows who they are any more". That remark simply prompted all the London newspapers to do features on the men and of course the statues stayed.

Knowing Livingstone, it was more likely he was pandering to minorities in the hope of getting their votes. Interesting that nobody "remembers" Napier for almost single-handedly putting an end to suttee.
