Hello all,

As my Year of Frugal Gaming draws to a close, I'm throwing the door open to anyone who wants to live their own Year of Frugal Gaming.

Check out the details here:

All the best

Dave,

Interesting – I tried this year ( link ) to follow your lead but got sidetracked into new shiny stuff month after month after (well you know the story).

At one point it got so bad I did not update the spend and now have no idea what the total cost is for the last year other than it is significantly less than the years before so a minor win thanks to you.

As December comes along I'll review what I have done to the aims in the above link and try to set some realistic targets for the 2010 period.

Key things for any frugal gamer I found:

1) Make a plan that includes the odd new thing
2) Get good support from your gaming mates – playing is better than sitting at home drooling over new things on the net
3) Get a wide range of cheap supplies in – I had many a figure but little terrain bits and have used big chunks of what I had
4) Post the failures and learn from them
5) Enjoy – the challenge is to stretch yourself not stop for lack of cash

Rebasing my mechwarrior figures to use them for CBT. They're just collecting dust and I'm never going to play clicky again….

I sold off some figs I was never gonna paint and consolidated to ACW and Arthurian periods in 28mm. The Arthurians may become things I will never paint if I don't quit finding ways to expand my ACW, but I think I will hold onto them 'just in case'. They will be a bit easier to paint than my ACW.

Of course, I bought more ACW figs and Black Powder rules (for the reading only, probably). I did not exactly re-invest but I am netting a wash, so that is better than digging into the family budget.

@ rusty musket- I was just planning my post re: my making my Arthurians my one and only project, so if you decide you want to ditch yours, please let me know!

My Year of Frugal Gaming…failed dismally!

OOO! Shiney!

Personally, I've been keeping the Pledge; to paint more lead than I buy. With the end of the year fast approaching it's a close run thing, with 770 painted to 817 bought. But I reckon I should come out at the end slightly on top.

So long as I can stay away from shops for the next month.

2009 has been a very frugal year for me. I haven't played a single wargame and bought no lead for the first 10 months of the year. Hardly any painting done. Just starting to look over and get out all my half finished projects. Just sent off two small orders for some essential figures.
Will probably sell off a load of metal.

its a table top sales event so prices will be cheeper than a bring and buy and unlike bring and buys you can haggle with the guy behind the table.entry is only a £1.00 GBP doors are open from 10.30am-2.00pm and there will be 16 tables of bargains dealing in most aspects of wargaming.reason why items are cheaper is that as we dont charge a commision the sellers dont have to add it on their goods.so this must be one of the most cost effective ways of getting new items that bit more frugally
