Hey, inspired by this blog firezonestudios.com/blog/, i have decided to start with 6mm. I did some research on the available 6mm ranges..ghq, gzg, exodus war and so on. Now i need some advice on the overall quality. I really like the look of the gzg grav tanks but it's hard to find close up pictures of the miniatures
Any recommendations on a range would be welcome. |

The Adler Dark Star range is superb, but a bit expensive

I sell Dark Realm miniatures in the States, so obviously I think they are great. I own a ton of GZG stuff, it paints up nicely, and is very reasonably priced. The infantry are awesome too. Brigade models 6mm looks a bit plain, but paints up well, and is also quite cheap. I have found GZG and Brigade to be similar in size, with Games workshop, Steel Crown/Exodus Wars, and Dark Realm generally having slightly larger vehicles that are supposed to be of the same type. That being said, they don't look all that out of place together, and size doesn't matter as much, it is scifi after all. I think there is a post on here talking about all known 6mm scifi manufacturers too, you should check that out as I think it is pretty comprehensive. |

There is a 6mm Science Fiction Wargames Yahoo Group: link There will be a new range of high quality 6mm Sci Fi in the New Year also. Cheers Mark |

I have a good amount of GZG 6mm and it's all outstanding. I also ordered recently from PlasmaBlast and received some excellent miniatures. Both ranges are compatible size-wise. Dark Realm figs look nice, but I've yet to place an order. They do seem a tad pricey. |

I like GZG but I find the vehicles to be a bit small compared to the infantry out there. Scotia aliens tend to be large compared to non-scotia vehicles. I have not seen the Scotia vehicles. All the others vehicles are fine but I have also not seen plasmablast's vehicles so can not say anything about their size. Having voiced my concerns I will recommend them all. GZG are just as good as any even if the vehicles tend to be smaller. Their Future wars vehicles are slightly larger. Pick your poison. |

I've got a couple of pics of some painted GZG 6mm sci-fi stuff on my Photobucket account. Hope it helps. link |

I have two decent sized ofrces of GZG stuff, a good sized force of Dark Realm and some odds and ends from Ogre and Zandris IV. The Ogre minis are the most finely detailed, but can be a bit pricey. Dark Realm are good, and quite characterful. GZG are good also and have a huge range – best to see them at a show if you can, and are quite inexpansive. G. |

I have a LOT of GZg, and odds and odds and ends from most other ranges. I think that the first thing you need to ask yourself is "what look amI going for", as each range really does have it's own personality. My favorite mix at the moment is Adler Darkstar vehicles for Traveller. The Imp stuff is great for mid Hi-tech, and the Venturon stuff is great for Imperial Marine forces when you use the GZG USNC minis as battledress. The Venturan infantry also make for great Zhodani. GZG works great for Hammers Slammers type units with hovertanks, and DRM and EW are great for gound pounding heavy armor units. (I actually use some of the alien tanks for space cruisers

For what its worth I have an occasionally updated list of sci fi 6mm ranges here link Other board members there can answer questions on pretty much every range. One day I dream of having every model from those ranges all pictured on the same size base from the same angles so all can be accurately compared! Oh and then I would stick them all on a big bit of board and have them on the wall :) |

Hi I have been slowly putting together pictures for 6mm Sci-Fi link I have about 4-5 other companies that are in the process of sending samples, so as soon as I get those, I will post some comparison pictures as well. I typically base the tanks on 30x40mm bases. Smaller stuff is on 20x40 bases. I have a pretty good list of 6mm Sci-Fi companies on my links page. miniaturereview.com/Links.aspx |

Excellent stuff, worthy of a news item surely :) |

I find that Brigade and GZG scale fairly well with GHQ, CinC, and other modern ranges out there, which is nice, because you can often use moderns as sci-fi with a few adaptations. Epic is, of course, huge, to the point of almost being 8mm. If you can get ahold of the old Renegade Legion cohort boxed sets, they're a good deal. 54 grav-tanks for not a whole lot of dough. |

Thanks for all the replies and helpful links. I decided to pick Exodus Wars for infantry units and the GZG Mecha Units for walkers. I'm still pretty unsure about the rest
has anyone tried to use Reaper CAV fliers, for example link , for 6mm? |
| CPBelt | 16 Nov 2009 7:51 p.m. PST |
Yes. They work fine because they are undersized. Avoid their true 10mm fliers. Get some Badgers for VTOL transports. I also use their Spiders, which scale perfectly for 6mm. Some CAV mechs work well for large walkers as well. DS2 really isn't a mech friendly game though. |

Yes, if you're into mechs you will want to steer clear of rulesets that are realistic in that regard (i.e. mechs are big targets) and go for the specialist mech rulesets like CAV. |

Well definitely check out the link TRC posted !! But IMO Exodus Wars & DRM makes EXCELLENT 6mm Sci-fi. I also like GZG's Infantry and Germy's Infantry from Brigade. Plus I have a lot of G/W-F/W Epic. I also highly recommend going to the Tac Cmd link that TRC listed and join
It's the BEST 6mm Sci-fi Wargame/modeling site with some of the crew making their own excellent models
