I was watching Last King of Scotlans last night & thought the Ugandan & Tanzanian armies circa 1979 would provide good inspiration for AK47 Republic armies. Anyone know what kind of uniforms & gear there two armies carried (uniforms-camo, headgear, weapons) & what type of armor was used? I think I remember seeing photos of Ugandan Shermans & Tanzanian ChiComm tanks. Any help is appreciated!

This is probably where you saw the Ugandan Shermans

Of course, Idi Amin's troops fled en masse once they discovered the Tanzanians were shooting back.

I recall Qaddafi sent a brigade to stop the Tanzanians. I assume he realized once Amin was deposed he'd be the craziest head of stste in the world. The press talked about how critical this was, that Arabs had a good combat record in black Africa. Then they met south of Kampala. The next day Libyans were dashing through the streets, throwing away uniforms and weapons.

From what I have gathered the Libyans were members of the "Islamic Legion" equipped with T54/55s, APC (maybe BTRS?), and BM21 MRLs. Tanzanians had Type-62s, a lighter ChiComm variant of the T-55. I would assume the Tanzanians would be equipped with AK47s (ChiComm variants). How about ol' Idi's boys? FN FALs? SLRs? AKs from the Libyans?

There is a video on the web showing Idi recreating the storming of the Golan Heights in the Six Day War shows tanks and infantry plus some air strikes, i'll see if i can find it in the morning.

Thanks! I will give it a try. I have seen a mix of what appears to be khaki or light OD & some camo for the Ugandans. Tanzanians appear to be mostly in camo. Slowly piecing this together.
