I am thinking of ordering some Old Glory 25mm British Infantry for the Sudan, however under their Sudan British Infantry Section they only have Camel Core. So which Infantry fig from their other lines would be best to represent the British in the Sudan. 1.) Zulu Wars British 2.) Indian Mutiny British 3.) Northwest Frontier British 4.) Boer Wars British Thanks, |

If you are looking to do the reconquest period (Omdurman), ie late 1890s, you want the Boer War British. For the Gordon period, only the Perrys and Redoubt make British in the proper uniform. |

When in the Sudan? 1880s? 1890s? 2 & 3 won't do, too early. 1 would pass for early 1880s. 4 for the 1890s? Maybe, if you're not too fussy (I'm not) |

"2 & 3 won't do, too early." 2 is definitely too early (c 1857), but 3 should cover anything from the 1870s to 1900. I'm not too fussy, so I'd use Zulu War or Northwest Frontier Brits for the 1880s, if I couldn't get specifically "Sudan Brits". |

Old Glory doesn't have any British infantry for their NWF range, just the Indian troops. So you'd have to use the Boer War range British infantry. |

So only applicable for early period would be Zulu British? |

This would be the early period - "For the Gordon period, only the Perrys and Redoubt make British in the proper uniform." |

I meant the lesser of the evils, if one has to buy old glory then the zulu british would have the most similarities with the early sudan uniforms of what they (old glory) offer. |

The Zulu War British would be very close for the 1882 campaign against the Egyptian army. For the 1880s there were various uniforms with units from India wearing khaki, puttees and covered helmets so the Boer War British could be used. Units from the British Isles would wear grey uniforms with loose trousers and on occasion plain red coats with blue or grey trousers. So you could get by with a mix of Zulu War and Boer War British if you aren't too picky. |
