While I know that it's not my primary reason, sometimes I must admit that knowing whether people are reading my blog is important to me. tyler.provick.ca/?p=844 |

If folks don't read your blog then why bother right? Mine is to have a place for folks to DL my game and to add ideas for the community to use or not. BTW, I like your blog and check in from time to time. |

Watching the blog stats is part of the fun, but blogs are also about teaching, learning or just keeping track of your own notes/progress/project. link |

Hi Coyote, I'd do one anyway. Featherstone was always going on about wargames diaries. I always used to keep scenarios I'd written up for a few years until the tattered envelopes in the bookcase got too much and they were periodically binned, but never battle reports – too much effort for little return. Then blogs came along – fantastic. I love blogs because of the filing system they provide. Having said that, yep, it's for attention. It always cheers me up when daily hits top 400 or so. Blogs should be about trading ideas, painting ideas, sharing what you did. Of course making an attempt to get attention if done the right way is a good thing because more work will go into the blog which everyone will benefit from. I have found blogs to be extremely helpful with my collecting and painting. I also enjoy music blogs, writing blogs and other things. A great exchange of information. |

Mine is pretty much just a diary, although written as if directed towards a reading audience. I think my wife might read it every once in a while but I doubt if I even have a regular audience. |

I also enjoy reading other peoples blogs though its mostly through RSS. I find it very useful for ideas and inspiration. I just wish I had time to sit and organize stuff to update mine. I usually only get to browse the net quickly most of the time. |

I suppose so, to a certain extent. Mine (of which there is a grand total of one entry so far!) will be more of an excuse just to ramble on about my current thoughts and projects – I guess a type of diary, like Mlatch221. It'll also be a way of keeping tabs on myself and spurring myself on, knowing that, at least one (maybe), other person is looking on! I love reading other wargaming blobs, the more chatty the better. |

Mine is. I paint all this stuff and rarely get a chance to show anyone so this is a way for me to get some feedback on my projects. I do really enjoy looking at other blogs as I'm often not comfortable painting something until I've seen it painted by someone else even though I will most likely paint it a completely different way. My blogs are mainly intended to keep a record of what I am doing. My idea is that I can go back in years time and read about what was important to me at the time. Also its a good place for me to put up thoughts about various subjects that, if someone asks a specific question, I can direct them there rather than try to explain it again. bookslikedust.blogspot.com minislikedust.blogspot.com Damon. |

Mine is pretty much a diary of my interesting games, but also a way for my friends now scattered to the four winds to keep up with my wargaming projects. Even though I started it for such noble reasons, sheer curiosity does have me drop by to see who's checking in. |

I agree with everyone's opinions. That's why I'm usually excited to document and share something ( like newly painted figs, finds, ideas, etc) and am pleased when others share back. So I guess it's not so much about attention for attentions' sake but rather attention as a gauge for measuring a medium for sharing -- for the blog to be a marketplace of ideas or a sounding board. It helps especially in our very specialized hobby and moreso for individuals like me who have very few comrades in arms sharing the same interests locally. Btw, I enjoy reading blogs too:)Most have inspired me to try something new -- from basing techniques, use of materials, scenarios, even genres I'm not familiar with -- and I'll be sure to pop by the new ones I see here. A recent example would be my recent foray into colonial and steampunk gaming, a genre I've never had interest in until I read blogs dealing with the subject. In fact, I'm due to pick up some newly ordered boxes of colonial brits at my hobby shop over the weekend. They'd go perfect with some dinosaurs toys I 've also picked up recently:) meninboxes.blogspot.com |

Our club blog is solely to have somewhere on the web where the people at the club the following week can go to remind themselves what toys to bring. It also emails itself to the club yahoogroup. And that blanket coverage mostly works, now our most amnesiac member has gone to Coventry

Why do I blog? Because I can
Seriously, its a place I can blow off steam about things that excite me, or wind me up, and write about things I enjoy. A cross between a diary and a resource of stuff for others to share, and where people can catch me for a chat. panther6actual.blogspot.com |

Mine is to provide a focus for me. As life takes over I find it very easy to let things drift and do no painting/gaming. With the blog (and the few followers I have) I feel I need to keep it going. And not with just quick posts. I like to try and do something worth looking at. And it's good to show off what I've done and get feedback and do likewise on others blogs. I do however pray my wife doesn't read it as I often document my latest and planned purchases and many/most of these she knows nothing about! :) Andy blog.belisarius.org.uk |

I updated my non-topic-specific blog for a while. It was a good place to list out whatever jumble was in my brain at the time, in case I had to look at it again later. I do find in the more topic-specific blogs (such as those of TMP members), that it is galvanizing to see that someone took the time to get some painting/terrain/dicing done, but they were thoughtful enough to take pictures. nycjadie's pics of his space efficient painting setup led me to make some changes in my own painting rig. The Frugal gaming blog is always a fun read and kicked a couple folks I know into digging out our blood bowl sets. Even if it's not updated often, it's rather like having some acquaintances who you can peer in on and say "I should do that too!". So don't despair if your hit count is only one
every hit count has a chance to get a figure painted, a board flocked, or some zombie/fascist/space mutants shuffled off to meet their fate! |

I do enjoy blogging! I find a few reasons
First, to organize my own thoughts and motivate myself. One of the reasons I get so much "done" is so I can update my blog! I also enjoy sharing ideas and such with other people. I also blog because I love getting feedback from folks. And lastly, I blog for My Great Reason, which is simply to put more toy soldier eye candy out there! I can't tell how often I've been thrilled at finding a great looking blog, and I always hope that someone who finds my own blog for the first time can waste hours and hours looking back over two years of blog posts and enjoy it as much as I enjoy Tarletons Quarters or McPhees or any of the other great blogs out there. |

Lol, I don't remember where, but once I've read an excellent opinion about blogging phenomenon – never have so many so much to say about so little to so few that actually payed attention. I agree with that opinion, but it still doesn't stop me from having one and reading other people's blogs. |

Hey, just because only 5 people care what you have to say doesn't mean they don't have a right to hear you say it. I have another point about how lately wargaming blogs are maturing into networks where like-minded bloggers discover each other and a back and forth occurs where one blogger is inspired by another's work. It's a stronger online hobby community. Ok, I think that's roughly it. Missing a bit I'm having trouble saying clearly. |
