I picked up a copy of "B;oody Omaha" at Fall-In.
There is an organization for Assault Companies, split up into Boat Sections that will fit in an LCVP.

Who makes model LCVPs (no apostrophe) that will hold the 6 medium bases, and 3 small bases?
Failing that (I do not think such a model is scale possible), how do gamers model this?
I know of at least 2 sources for LCVPs. Which models look the best? Does anyone make landing crew? I would think the boats would be so crowded that GI heads mounted on card would look fine.

Anyway, any suggestions for good looking models from people who have gamed this would be appreciated.

Do you want full models, or "waterline" models, or both, so you can swap them out as they come ashore?

Battlefront made some of these with a special "lump" of miniatures to represent the men while they were in the vehicle. I'm pretty certain these are not being produced any longer. Ebay may be your friend for these models.

There are lots of other companies that make the vehicle models(and other types), but I'm not sure they make the passengers.

Why not model the figures in the LCVP in a different scale; then once disembarked throw down the 15mm figs?

Allen, maybe "both". Maybe.
I am just looking for ideas now. I was not aware they came in both flavors.

Paperterrain does landing craft.

John, try this:

I've purshcased 15mm landing craft from him and I'm quite happy wiht them. I think he has a website now but it's not listed on the TMP directory, but the page at least has a email address.

How many come in an Old Glory/CD bag?
I was looking at the photos on the Skytrex site, and it looks pretty big. Also, some of the landing craft on the OG/CD site do not mention number of models in the bag, and some say only 2.

What are the dimensions of the Gaming Models ones? I do have their catalog.

I have bought some of Scott's PaperTerrain villages, and like his stuff, and the price.

This is one of those "one of these days" projects, so I have plenty of time to browse before shopping. Unless I see the BF box set going for "BUY IT NOW" on eBay for $12…
Then I will go into an uncontrolled feeding frenzy.

John,
I'll measure the Gaming Models guys for you when I get home this evening. I have LCMs and LCVPs. Check back here in about 5 hours.

If you are going to be using them for FOW the landing craft are only markers, you don't actually place the troops in them. The exception to that is for SP guns firing from their landing craft and for that the LCVP is the wrong type anyway, use an LCM3 (available form several sources) instead.

Gaming Models dimensions

LCVP: length about 105mm at the waterline, width 35mm at the waterline. Flares out a bit and the ramp adds 10mm to the overall length. Interior area is about 25mm by 60mm.

LCM: waterline is about 150mm by 50mm. Interior area is about 35mm by 100mm, easily holds a 15mm size Sherman.

Hope that helps. I use these all the time, they're good models.

I had intended to recommend the Gaming Models ones, just for economy's sake; here's the Web site:

Here is a previous discussion:

I wouldn't get hung up on dimensions: if they're 1:100 scale, you're not going to be able to fit in a FoW based boat section anyway.

Paper would work, too. A smaller scale sounds sensible, as then you can have smaller-scale naval gunfire support, too.

I was thinking of doing jackets and heads of a bag or two of cheap troops, and putting them on a base the dimension of the deck. Just enough to look crowded together.

Don't forget… The US also used LCAs. My father's brother landed with the 16th Infantry on D-Day. His company came ashore in LCAs. Gaming Models makes LCA, LCVP, LCM and a few other landing craft models.
