Hi everyone; I have some 1/300 scale De520s to paint and am trying to decide what colors to use for my Vichy French. Looks like a base of grey, with cammo of brown and green, plus some brightly colored tail sections. I've visited the website "Wings palette" and have some great looking images, but am not sure what color grey they used. I usually use Vallejo brand paints. Anyone out there have some tips for me. They look like they'll be fun to paint. Thanks Joe |

I used light grey for the underside and neutral grey for the upper with chocolate brown and military green camo. The Vichy painted the empennage in yellow and red stripes. On bombers, the cowlings were painted the same – not sure about the fighters. |

I have seen fighters with yellow cowling. Some had red stripes, some not. Hopefully Miscmini will chime in here. He is the man. |

Hi The french used two specific greys, I don't know that they can be matched with Valliejo. Rocky |

Funny this should come up. This weekend or next I plan to fight out one of the Brit raids on Oran during Torch. 6 Sea Hurris and 8 Albacores on the way back to their carriers are getting intercepted by 9 D.520's. |

Hi Daniel; That sounds like a great scenario. When you do play it, try and post an AAR here for it. I want to do the D.520s versus US Wildcats and then the British versus French scenarios found in the CY6 rule book. I'll go with Sundances color suggestions, using some of my Vallejo greys. Thanks everyone; Joe |

Joe, most recently I've been using (Vallejo): 083 Flat Green 145 German Camouflage Medium Brown 157 Dark Blue Gray There are different schemes for the nose & tails in the reference I use (Mushroom Publications Dewoitine D.520). Yellow seems to be present in all of the schemes (nose & tail or tail only) and red stripes appear in many pictures (some units have thicker red stripes than others). Kevin |

Many thanks Kevin; I was just looking to sit down and start painting. Joe |
