I could have sworn that there was a thread on here regarding liferaft/lifeboat colors but I can't find it now. So, what color were German and British liferafts and lifeboats? Much gras. |

From my study of photographs they seem to be the color of the vessel, usually grey. The camouflage would be compromised by bright colors. |

Royal Australian Navy – 'battleship' grey, same as the rest of the ship, for both floats & boats. From photos of the remains of HMAS Sydney the boats may have had the ship's badge painted on at the C.O.'s discretion. The RAN followed British practice, so that would hold true for the RN as well. |

Would these colors also apply to the small life rafts carried on coastal craft? |

I have seen pics of models of MTB's with dull yellow ones (presumbably faded from sunlight). Since they fought mainly at night, I doubt the yellow color would be an issue. Yellow would be a much better color to be found during daylight, if floating in the Channel, or other areas. Germans seem to have been primarily dark gray. Color photos of MTB's and S-Boats are rather scarce, so it is hard to be sure in many cases. |
