Did 21st century do a P-40? Is there another pre-paint 1:144 model available (preferably in plastic, not metal).

Hi Jim,

Yes, they did make them, and they are pre-painted with Nationalist Chinese markings, and a very nice shark's mouth cowling, for the Flying Tigers. Some assembly is required, but less than a normal kit.

We have them for sale.

Thanks Rob,

I saw the ones on your site appear to be Bandai and I may go that route. Tell me though, to your knowledge, did 21C make a P40 model?

Oops, actually you are correct.

My mistake. They are the Bandai Wing Club models

Sorry.

I blame premature alzheimer's…..

I don't think C21 did the P-40. At least I never saw any.

I swear they did a John Belushi one based on the movie 1941.

Am I nuts? I swear I saw that in a store at one point.

I did a quick interweb search… no 1/144 stuff, BUT:

1/18

P-40B WARHAWK "LANGLEY FIELD"
P-40B PEARL HARBOR P-40B TOMAHAWK "WHITE 160"
P-40B PEARL HARBOR P-40B TOMAHAWK "WHITE 316"
P-40B SKY CAPTAIN'S P-40B WARHAWK

1/32
P-40B WARHAWK AVG "FLYING TIGERS" "R. T. SMITH"
P-40B TOMAHAWK USAAF "FLG. OFF. NEVILLE DUKE"
P-40B TOMAHAWK DAVID LEE "TEX" HILL "FLYING TIGERS"
P-40B TOMAHAWK LT. ROY CHADWICK SAAF NO. 4 SQUADRON

Thanks, Rallypoint, but the 1:18 models might stick out next to my 1:144 Jap fighters.

Rob, do the Bandai and other Japanese manufactures scale pretty well with the 21st century manufactures (in the same way that not all 28mm figs are the same size)?

Top Gun Ace11 Nov 2009 1:06 p.m. PST

They all look good to me, but I haven't taken a ruler to them.

I think there is less sculptor license in the plastic aircraft line from Bandai and C21, unlike some miniatures ranges (then again, there is a lot more variation in the size of humans, and other creatures).

jimborex –

Try the Flames of War (FoW) P-40Es. link

There are three in the box.

Couldn't find any other 1/144.

Thanks for the help, fellows.

Jim -

The P-40 Bandais that Top Gun has looks just fine with my 21C Japs. I never saw a 21C P-40 and we really had a bunch of guys here on TMP collecting for each other. :-)

Thanks, Chips. I figured if Rob hadn't seen it, it didn't exist, but you confirm it.
