Continuing my discussion of various 1812 battles for suitability as a 28mm wargame is Crysler's Farm tyler.provick.ca/?p=797 |

I've run Crysler's Farm using Generale de Brigade, 15mm. Good 1812 scenario. My struggle with 1812 is rules. I might like a certain ruleset, but the 1812 battlefield is too small for the rules. Could the problem be that 1812 set piece battles are on the scale of something between skirmish and brigade? Is there is a lack of rules that cover company/battalion level battles on small battlefields? |

Have you tried the Perfect Captains Cousin Jonathan set of rules. They're free link |

Also The Complete Brigadier by JF Grossman. Chrysler Farm is one of the scenarios if I remember correctly. Cheers Mark |

A Canadian rule book, Rockets Red Glare, had this scenario in it. I played it out years ago when I had a load of Foundry 1812 figures. Played in on an 8x4 table which game me more space than I needed. Still, the game played out well as I recall. Wish I still had the rules, but the rule book and the figures I foolishly sold off and now reside in Oz. |

I have played both Rockets Red Glare and Cousin Jonathan. Each give an enjoyable game with a different flavor. We have gamed Crysler's Farm with some special rules to reflect the absence of a unified command on the US side and got a very satisfactory result. I think War of 1812 games work fine for one-on-one games. It's only when you have to entertain a table of six or so that the smallness of the battles becomes an issue. |

I have yet to try out the Cousin Jonathan rules. |

Coyote I'll be doing this with Lasalle when it comes out in 28s. I am planning on Lasalle for the larger battles (like Lundys Lane or Chippawa) and Sharpe Practise for the small stuff. First goal in Gananoque as it is local and small (<100 per side). I'll likely scale up or down for battles that fall between the sizes for the 2 – Cryslers will likely be with a half company rather than a company per stand for instance. |

Sounds good. Maybe one day we'll combine our collections to put on something big. I've got Black Powder and plan on ordering Republic to Empire. |

I would be interested in reading a review of the Cousin Jonathan rules. It appears to have more chrome than Rocket's Red Glare, but can you get a game finished in 4 or 5 hours? |

I have run Crysler's farm in 15mm using both Rockets Red Glare and On to Philadelphia, and liked the latter a little better. May try Wilderness wars or Regimental Fire and Furry in the quest to find the "perfect set of 1812 rules". |

I'm working on a rule set for Baccus 6mm in their Polemos series, covering North American Wars 1754 – 1815. We have played Cryslers farm in our play testing at roughly 5 to 1 with 5 players. It was lots of fun and finished in about 4 hours. Hopefully the rules will be released within the next couple of years. |

Kudos for getting Crysler's Farm spelled right, and on the correct Board! |
