I was just wondering what everyone uses for playing Ambush alley. I have 15mm WW2, Vietnam and Moderns figures and was wondering is there a set basing? Is it all 1 figure basing or 2 figures basing. Is it ok to have them on FOW basing??? Not sure which way is correct? Advice Sought. |

I think a lot of people play with single figure bases. However, we play in 15mm with a mix of one-figure and two-figure bases and it works pretty well. You just need to be able to track casualties. We use a combination of figure removal and casualty figures. FOW basing should work fine, you just need a way to track individual casualties. |

We play a lot of FoF and AA and beter than 50% in our group, play FOW. We are just going to get colored rings that represent lt wounds, heavy wounds and KIA to place on the stands. Mike |

I play in 28mm and have single based figures. Personally I think 15mm are a bit small for single basing. Flames of War basing should work fine. Ed G. |

We do single basing, we base on US pennies as they are cheaper than washers :) |

I play 15mm based on US pennies. But as long as you have a way to count casualties any basing should work fine. The rules have a note about using FoW based figures. If you have a really big play area you could even use 1 FoW base = 1 figure in the rules. |

I have all my 15mm AA mounted on pennies. |

Largely single-based on pennies (for 15mm), with a few of the weapon teams based on FoW small or medium bases. |

I have some of my 15mm AA and FoF minis on pennies, but have now moved to washers since they attached to magnetic sheets in my storge boxes. I have added Litko flex steel to the ones I mounted on pennies so they would also work in the magnet lined cases. All my 15mm Scifi are on washers for the same reason. Jeff |

One of the many great things about the rules is that you can use whatever figures you have. As the others have mentioned, as long as you have a means of tracking casualties, FOW basing will be fine. |

Any basing works for AA but it seems to work best with single basing. Thats what I do with my 20mm minis. |

Wow! Thanks for the really helpful responses. I have just one more question. If I do use my FOW bases am I going to disadvantaged. By this I mean am I going to lose the flexibility of moving single figures to act seperately and am I going to suffer from HE weapons more often than if I bsed my figures on single bases? |

FOW basing should be fine if you use markers to tell how many guys are Wounded/KIA. You will need to be able to mark specific guys since the loss of heavy weapons impact the unit's firepower. Little crochete rings or similar may work. AA and FoF do not use template markers so the grouping of guys together is fine. You may have a little more trouble with determining terrain cover, but this is not a tourniment system, so that shoudl easily be figured out playing friends. All in all, it shoudl work just fine. Really can't hurt to give it a try since the system in great and now with FoF you can do Moderns and WWII. The Vietnam book is just icing on the cake. (SciFi in the works as well!!!!!) Jeff |

We also use pennies for bases. The colored rings are available from The Last Square in Madison, Wisconsin. |

I tend to base 2 figures on a 30mm base. Gives me a little room for some scenic styling too ;-) |
