Played a game of Field of Glory today. Still learning the rules and as ever we ran out of time so no conclusion. Good fun anyway. Report here: link Cheers Andy |

I read with interest you had the same problem I did with skirmishers fighting. They hold things up until they die off
I could not figure a way to get them to disengage either. Wonder how it's done? |

The best way to avoid this is to refuse to commit your light troops to melee. Evade with them or just withdraw them behind your main line when it is time for the heavy troops to engage. Chris |

I agree with bates. The skirmishers are there to screen your main line to prevent your opponent's skirmishers from disorganizing it. If you have skirmishers and your opponent has skirmishers and you both use them right they won't do much at all. However, if someone says that they're useless and doesn't bother, or is sloppy with them, they are useful. |

Skirmishers are one of the best done things in FOG, if used historically they are good. The game seemed to have a lot of troops for players still learning the rules. I would suggest a max of 600 pts for the first 3 or 4 games, after that you wont need to refer to the rules for 99% of the time. |

skirmishers the best done thing in FoG? not if your dice rolling are less than average. Then they stand and fight for far too long. I've seen them caught in open ground against legionaries, survive a poor impact roll, and two poor combat rounds before sucumbing. too many dice driven exceptions in there to argue away, they should be rethought for version 2 of the rules. for example – skirmishers caught in the open by any other troops type are eliminated with no penalty on movement. that'll encourage them to be used properly. but a good looking game, and report, none the less. |

Thanks for the comments. Skirmishers – still not sure on this. Surely protecting your main line involves driving off enemy skirmishers and if they choose to stand and fight then melee it is. We had a lot of turns with the skirmishers battling it out and my guys taking a lot of casualties but always passing their Cohesion tests. I was desperate to get them out of the way but they just wouldn't lie down and die! If these had been between the main battlelines then the might of Rome and Carthage would have been spectators for half the game! I may post over on the FoG Forums for their take on it as well.
