After completing the MillenniumCon12 game of Waterloo this weekend, I am determined to finish out the OOB. I had to use Hussars for Lancers, etc, so am back to getting it right. Now that Lancers and Red Lancers are released by Redline, I can fix that. But need some advice.

1. 1815 Empress Dragoons – can I use regular 1815 Dragoons?

Still trying to fill out my Rivoli 28mm OOB (Eureka figs).

2. 1797 French Cavalerie – what figs can I use for these. Front Rank SYW Prussian Dragoons have been suggested?

3. Austrian Uhlans/Hussars/StaffDragoons – how far back can I use 1805 Austrian Cavalry into 1796-97 for these?

4. Gyulai Freikorp – what I can convert for these?

One other question – what works best for 1815 Young Guard, Ligne or Legere?

And another question -

What would convert best to Spanish under Wellington – French, British, Nassau, Brunswick, Austrian, Prussian or Russian?

"1. 1815 Empress Dragoons – can I use regular 1815 Dragoons?"

The Empress Dragoons had an older style coat open at the waist so the waistcoat was exposed and a 3-cover pistol housing.

Regular Dragoons had a Bardin style coat that was closed to the waist and a 2-cover pistol housing.

Actually, the Empress Dragoons wore a surtout at Waterloo--like the Horse Grenadiers. It was the only campaign in which they were so dressed. The modification was a Restoration idea. They also had cording (aigrettes ?) on their right shoulders. That's the more important consideration.

I cannot believe that nobody makes guard dragoons. I would not expect them to be wearing the surtout, and I wouldn't worry about it for Waterloo. No sense making major conversions like that for a single campaign.

(aigrettes ?)

aiguillettes

(I think aigrette is a small eagle, so not entirely inappropriate!)
