A lot of comments on the logistics of marching armies across a desert, pretty neat.

Wow. Deja vu all over again.

I search for Persian so I missed that.

Another vanished Persian army?

As Oscar nearly said, "to lose one army may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose two looks like carelessness"

Oh! I thought you said varnished! I though maybe somebody found 1000 pts of WRG or something. Rob.

Yet another reason to trust in Herodotus! Awesome find.

How would you like to be that American tourist who bought the sword?

How would you like to be that American tourist who bought the sword?

Who probably went on to clean it with brasso and use it as a paper knife or something with no idea how old it may have been.

There are right now 10,000 American and Canadian tourists looking at their souvenir swords and hoping. At least 9,999 will be disappointed. Though at least 10 will try to sell the 'real' one on ebay.

A dagger, some arrowheads and a few beads and a mass grave don't necessarily a missing army make.

And I wonder, how might the bodies have ended up in a mass grave? Perhaps the survivors, if any, did it?

Some much-needed words of caution on this 'new' story: link

Isn't this what they were searching or in the English Patient? I too will be more impressed when some real Persian artifacts are found and shown off. This all sounds like a bunch of smoke and mirrors too promote a movie.
