hello, I am basing some 1/6000 destroyers for my home brew game cruiser, (pre)dreadnoughts, coastal defense, monitors are all based as individuals. Subs individuals. how or what is the best way to deal with destroyers and gun boats
I was thinking in squadrons of 4 ships or would singles be best? |

Wouldn't that depend on the rules you plan to use? Ken |

they are home brew as mentioned above. would it be best to keep destroyers, gun boats and transports/tankers as a group on a single base or individual? |

Do your rules allow them to change formation, take individual ship losses, and have ships drop out of formation for damage and other purposes OR do your rules treat the formation as indivisible? The answer to that question ought to dictate your basing requirements. Bob |

I understand that individually-based 1/6000 vessels may be tricky, but personally that is the way I keep mine. Since they are all from the Figurehead range, I based them individually on the included bases, and I am happy with that arrangement. I usually base DDs separately, even if they are supposed to represent flotillas. Gives more flexibility. |

I mount destroyers individually, but all TB I mount 2 to a stand. Dan |

It would depend on the rules you're using, and also the period and theatre. In some spots and periods, destroyers and even torpedo boats operated singly. If you're doing Jutland, it might make sense to mount them in formation. If you're doing Yalu or Santiago, I think it makes more sense to mount them singly. |

Another option is that you can have one DD model represent 2 "game ships". Remember that ground scale is typically greater than ship scale, so this probably results in an increase in positional realism. Since I use General Quarters rules, that means I would associate 2 DD SDSs with the single DD model, which represents the appoximate location of both game ships. With this approach, a house rule is needed to handle the speed at which the model can move, when the game ships it represents have different speeds (speed of fastest ship, to avoid opponent "gaming" the system?). In the attached image, I was usig a 4-1 ratio. The 2 DD models at the top represented the 1st Flotilla screening the 5th BS (Barham et.al.), and the 5 DD models at the bottom represented the 9th, 10th, and 13th Flotillas screening the battlecruisers. With my current 2-1 scheme, I would need 4 models and 10 models respectively. picture |
