I'm using Figurehead 1/1250 Coastal Command ships. The German boats are molded with a flat bottom. The British boats, however, are molded with chined bottoms. Seems rather silly to me to make a boat to be represented as being in the water with a chined bottom, but be that as it may
If you're using the same figs, do you just file it flat or mount it in a shallow clay base or what? Top Gun Ace, I believe you sell these also – what's your take? |

I mounted both flat. At this scale, you will not notice the difference. Make sure you paint a good wake on the base. |

I've got a tub load of these and I just file the bottoms flat. With my mounting method, its easier than building up the base. For variety, I vary the mounting, with some boats high out of the water (as if at speed) and some low in the water (as if stopped or at slow speed). |

Fair enough – I've considered both suggestions already and will experiment. Thanks! |

Correct. I usually mount mine flat, but as mentioned, the small British MTB's and MGB's should have their bows lifted out of the water at speed, which is why they are sculpted like that. In that case, just glue the middle to rear of the boats to the base, and paint a nice bow wake on around the front, for effect. |
