Thanks to everyone who played, and to those who stopped by to view the game or compliment the tabletop terrain.

I liked the pic of the cavalry crossing the stream…can you tell me how it was created?

Scott Mingus08 Nov 2009 5:11 a.m. PST

Hello Murph!

Fortunately for we Northerners, Lew Wallace held on long enough both in reality and in 15mm to keep Jubal Early at bay and stop the spread of Winn Dixie across Yankee land.

The stream pieces were acquired years ago from Doug Kline at Battlefield Terrain Concepts. They use a clear acrylic polymeric coating spread onto a painted baseplate (with varying shades of black/brown to simulate some depth). Upon curing, Doug simply flocked the edges and sold the pieces. I added Woodland Scenics clump foliage as bushes and scrub, and glued down a few rocks, some downed trees, reeds, and other things sometimes found alongside streams and creeks.

The lighting and the ceiling color in the Eisenhower ballroom artificially made the streams appear somewhat bluish in the photos, but in reality when viewed under regular lighting, they are a dark muddy brown color.

I also still have some autographed first edition copies of my latest book, The Louisiana Tigers in the Gettysburg Campaign, available for $34.95 USD plus postage.
